Prince William presents Santa with letter from son George

Image
v Prince William presents Santa with letter from son George Prince George had better have been on his best behaviour this year as he has his heart set on a visit from Father Christmas. During a visit to a festive market in Helsinki, Prince William presented his son's handwritten Christmas wish list to Santa Claus. In the letter the Duke of Cambridge's eldest child has listed that he would like to receive just one thing in his stocking this year. Despite there being space for the royal to list five gifts George reveals that all he would like for Christmas is a police car before signing his name at the bottom. And the young prince clearly thinks that he is deserving of the present as at the top of the paper where it asks whether he has been 'naughty or nice' the four-year-old has circled 'nice'. The letter was delivered by Prince William who paid a visit to Esplanade Park's Christmas market in Helsinki, on the second day of his tour of Finland. ...

Meghan Markle's sorority share photos of her as a student As Meghan Markle plans for her future as a member of the royal family, royal fans are eager to know more about her past. And now a photo from the actress' college years has resurfaced showing the future Duchess as a fresh faced teenager. The photo was taken of Meghan at the age of 19 during her sophomore year at Northwestern where she was studying Communications. At the time of the photo, taken 17 years ago, Meghan was party of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority - a society for female students in US colleges. The photo, shared on Twitter by the Chicago Sun-Times, sees a fresh-faced Meghan beaming at the camera for her college year book. As a student she always had her heart set on acting but admitted that she didn't want to become a stereotype.  'I knew I wanted to do acting, but I hated the idea of being this cliche—a girl from LA who decides to be an actress,' she told Marie Claire in 2013, acc...

Meghan Markle effect sees more women requesting nose jobs

Image
Meghan Markle effect sees more women requesting nose jobs The Meghan effect is well and truly in full swing, with clothes and shoes worn by Prince Harry's new fiancée already flying off shelves. And now it appears the actress has been inspiring a trend in an unexpected department - as fans go under the knife seeking to emulate the bride-to-be's nose. Plastic surgeon Stephen T. Greenberg revealed that he has seen a spike in clients asking for Meghan's nose in the past six months, as well as in the days following her engagement announcement to Prince Harry. In fact, he says that the Suits star has even overtaken the likes of Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner when it comes to celebrity-inspired plastic surgery requests. Dr Greenberg, who is based in New York, believes that the appeal of a nose like Meghan's is its straight profile and defined tip, as well as the fact it isn't quite perfect. Speaking to Allure, he said: 'Today she is probably one of the...

Migraine miracle jab 'could be approved by NHS next year

Image
Migraine miracle jab 'could be approved by NHS next year Millions of people are set to benefit from the first new migraine drug in 20 years, a landmark study revealed last night. The monthly injection, called erenumab, prevents nearly half of migraine attacks for people who have few other treatment options, scientists found. The medication, developed by UK scientists over the last three decades, has been submitted for a medical licence in Europe and the US and will be assessed by NHS watchdog NICE in May. More than eight million Britons - three quarters of them women - suffer migraine attacks, which involve dizziness, nausea and headaches. Attacks can last anything from four to 72 hours. The problem affects more people than diabetes, asthma and epilepsy combined - and is the sixth most common cause of disability in the world. Yet until now there has been no treatment specifically designed to prevent the problem, with patients instead given beta blockers, antidepres...

Instagrammer has 50 surgeries to look like Angelina Jolie

Image
Instagrammer has 50 surgeries to look like Angelina Jolie An Angelina Jolie super-fan has amazed her own social media followers with photos that show her trying to emulate the Hollywood star. Sahar Tabar, 22, from Tehran, Iran, has an Instagram account filled with snaps that show her with Angelina-esque razor-sharp cheekbones and famously plump pout, albeit much more extreme versions. Belgian media has reported that Sahar has undergone 50 procedures to look like her idol - but fans claim she creates the incredible looks just by using make-up and clever prosthetics. However not all of the feedback from her 318,000 Instagram followers is positive, with some likening her to a 'zombie' or a 'corpse'. Belgian website Sud Info, Sahar said her goal in life is to look like the Hollywood actress. It reported that she has lost 40kg and undergone dozens of procedures in the space of just a few months to look like Angelina. She has shared numerous selfies on social...

Brit faces Dubai jail after friends took selfies with man

Brit faces Dubai jail after friends took selfies with man The family of a British woman who is facing jail in Dubai after a hotel brawl have vowed to clear her name, calling her 'absolutely and completely' innocent.  Asa Hutchinson was allegedly with a group of friends who got into a fight with a Swedish tech executive when he caught them taking selfies with him as he was sleeping in a hotel lobby. But the 21-year-old, from Chelmsford, claims she was not involved in the fight, and had only picked up the man's glasses from the floor and 'put them in the bin because she was worried someone would step on them'. Her mother Lucie Harrison has today defended her daughter, saying she is 'absolutely and completely innocent'. 'She was there at the time but all she did was pick some glasses up off the floor and put them in the bin because she was worried someone would step on them,' Ms Harrison said. Ms Hutchinson said that as her friends were just visiting t...

Image
Megyn Kelly dodges questions on Matt Lauer after firing Megyn Kelly has admitted hearing 'rumors' about Matt Lauer's alleged sexual misconduct before he was fired on Tuesday but said she hoped they 'weren't true'.  The NBC host was speaking at Business Insider's IGNITION media event when she made the revelation on Wednesday, hours after addressing Lauer's shock firing on her own morning show.  She denied having any 'official knowledge' of Lauer's alleged wrongdoing but said she knew reporters were 'sniffing' around 'the issue'.  In her comments about Lauer, she also boasted about knowing ahead of time that CBS veteran journalist Charlie Rose was due to be exposed for alleged misconduct too.   'I didn't have any official knowledge but because of the work I do and the stories I cover and the connections I have in the industry, I have a general feel for - I knew the Charlie Rose thing was coming - and I'd heard rumor...

Nasa confirms asteroid will pass Earth on December 16

Image
Nasa confirms asteroid will pass Earth on December 16 Nasa has confirmed that an enormous asteroid will brush past Earth on December 16. The asteroid, called 3200 Phaethon, measures three miles (five kilometres) in diameter, and is classed as 'potentially hazardous.' During the pass, the asteroid is estimated to be around 6.4 million miles away from our planet – around 27 times the distance between the Earth and the moon. It will be the closest this asteroid has been to Earth since December 16, 1974, when it was around 5 million miles away. In a statement about the asteroid, a spokesperson for Nasa said: 'With a diameter of about 5 km, Phaethon is the third largest near-Earth asteroid classified as "Potentially Hazardous".' Nasa expects Phaethon to make its closest pass with Earth on December 16, during which time the space agency hopes to take detailed images of the asteroid. The Nasa spokesperson said: 'Phaethon will approach within 0.069...

Forget Meghan, what will HARRY wear to the wedding

Image
Forget Meghan, what will HARRY wear to the wedding Since the announcement of Prince Harry's engagement to Meghan Markle speculation has mounted over what we can expect the bride to wear on her big day. However, Meghan isn't the only one who will need to make a good impression with her fiance also expected to dress the part. But where as a big white dress is almost certainly a given for the bride it is not as clear what the royal groom will choose to wear. If he were to follow in his brother's footsteps the 33-year-old would opt for military dress as Prince William did at his nuptials to Kate in 2011. William wore the uniform of the Colonel, Irish Guards, because he had recently been appointed to this by The Queen and his wedding was a ceremonial one. However, according to Royal commentator for Sky News, Ceremonial Expert and Officer in Arms Alastair Bruce we are likely not to see Harry is uniform. Speaking to Cosmopolitan, Bruce said: 'As Prince Harry is...

Image
ACDC's Malcolm Young's Sydney neighbours talk AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young didn't bring the chaos that comes with rock and roll home with him - in fact he lived a quiet life, his neighbours said. The only time they got a glimpse into his professional life was when he would belt out music from the attic-based studio of his Balmain East home, in Sydney's inner west. Young, who was laid to rest on Tuesday after a three-year battle with dementia considered the home as a place to escape his celebrity life. Young, who was a co-founder of AC/DC, was known as one of the greatest guitarists on earth. As Young's family prepared to say goodbye to the world-famous rhythm guitarist on Tuesday, his neighbours looked back at memories of having the rock god next door, and recalled his generous offer to let them use his swimming pool if they wished. 'It wasn't what you would expect - he didn't have wild parties - and most of the time you only knew he was h...

'Doomsday' solar storm could devastate Earth at any moment

Image
'Doomsday' solar storm could devastate Earth at any moment Devastating space storms could devastate Earth at any moment and humans will only have 15 minutes to prepare, an expert has warned. These dramatic storms, caused by coronal mass ejections from the sun, could engulf Earth, potentially plunging us into darkness and causing widespread devastation. Extreme space weather events have the potential to wipe out the electrical grid and cripple homes and businesses around the world, experts have warned. Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are huge explosions of magnetic field and plasma from the sun's corona which affect the Earth's magnetic field. These CMEs can disrupt radio waves, GPS coordinates and overload electrical systems. A large influx of energy could flow into high voltage power grids and permanently damage transformers. 'Fifteen minutes warning is all we have to tell us about the specific conditions of what will hit us and how problematic it cou...

Supervolcano eruptions much more regular than expected

Image
Supervolcano eruptions much more regular than expected The next volcanic 'super eruption' with the power to return humanity to a pre-civilised state could be due much sooner than previously thought. Experts have previously predicted that the massive eruptions are likely to occur roughly once every 45,000 to 714,000 years. This assessment, made in 2004, is now being challenged by new findings which say that the most likely time frame is just 17,000 years. Researchers also estimate the eruptions could happen as often as once every 5,200 years. Geological records studied by researchers from the University of Bristol shows that the most recent volcanic super-eruptions occurred on Earth between 20,000 and 30,000 years ago. They looked at a database of eruptions, called the LaMEVE database, to make the findings. By using statistical analysis they discovered that, while large eruptions of around 100 million metric tonnes are less frequent than previously thought, the v...

Sarah Vine Meghan's just what Harry really needs

Image
Sarah Vine Meghan's just what Harry really needs The really modern thing about Prince Harry's fiancĂ©e Meghan Markle is not — as so many have said — that she is mixed race or American or a divorcee. What's truly remarkable about her — and what makes her almost unique in the history of royal spouses — is that she is not some unknown ingĂ©nue plucked from a sanitised line-up of carefully selected debutantes. She is a real woman, with real world experience, who comes to the marriage as a fully formed individual in her own right. Perhaps that explains the grin of joy on Prince Charles's face as the news broke: his own wife, Camilla, is cut from similar cloth. The tragedy for Charles is that he had to tear his family apart to be with his one true love; his son, by contrast, is free to follow his heart. That alone would be progress — but Meghan takes it to the next level. Because even before she met Harry, she had already made her mark on the world. Not only that, ...

In her official engagement interview on Monday, Miss Markle said: 'Now being boots on the ground in the UK I'm excited to get to know more about the communities here, smaller organisations who are working on the same causes that I've always been passionate about….and also being able to go round the Commonwealth, I think it's just the beginning.' By contrast, the Duchess of Cambridge undertook a small number of engagements after her w...

Meghan Markle is praised as a 'true humanitarian'

Image
Meghan Markle is praised as a 'true humanitarian' Meghan Markle has been hailed as a 'true humanitarian' by a charity that she worked with around the world. The bride-to-be, 36, was praised by global relief charity World Vision, who said she would bring 'vast energy' to her future work as a member of the royal family. The comments came after it was announced Miss Markle is giving up her current charitable commitments, including her work with World Vision, to focus on her new life as a royal with a 'clean slate'. Ms Markle became a World Vision Global Ambassador after heading to Rwanda with the organisation in February 2016 when she saw the impact of clean water on the lives of children and communities in Africa. In January this year, she travelled to Delhi and Mumbai with the charity, which is a global relief, development and advocacy charity. World Vision's Lara Dewar, who travelled to India with Ms Markle earlier this year, thanked t...

Watch Meghan fail her last quiz on strange British customs

Image
Watch Meghan fail her last quiz on strange British customs Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will wed in May at St George's Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle - but the American actress might have to brush up on her knowledge of British culture before then. The 36-year-old floundered when she was quizzed on 'Britishisms' last year by TV Channel Dave, answering just four out of 15 questions correctly. After the test the star said: 'I think I lost. I think I was the worst at this game.' The clip was filmed for TV channel Dave while Miss Markle was in Britain promoting Suits last year before her romance with Prince Harry became public. The test started on a positive note with the actress correctly picking out the name of an obscure real ale - but went downhill soon after. Miss Markle wrongly chose Vegemite over Marmite and couldn't translate 'apples and pears' from Cockney rhyming slang. The actress also couldn't name the national ani...

Violet von Westenholz emerges as possible royal matchmaker/Meghan and  Harry One of Prince Harry's oldest family friends and the daughter of a British baron has emerged as one of the possible matchmakers who arranged a blind date for the royal with Meghan Markle. Violet von Westenholz is the daughter of former Olympic skier Baron Piers von Westenholz, who is a close personal friend of the Prince of Wales. In her role as press relations director for Ralph Lauren, she worked alongside Miss Markle on June 30, days before her blind date with Prince Harry in July 2016. But other sources say that her Bahrain-born best friend Misha Nonoo, the estranged wife of Harry’s friend, Alexander Gilkes, a pal of William and Harry’s from Eton, organised their blind date last year. Miss von Westenholz, who was once linked romantically with singer James Blunt, refused to deny whether or not she was the mystery cupid. She told the Daily Telegraph: 'I might leave that for other people ...

Pregnant Kate Middleton dresses for the elements in London

Image
Pregnant Kate Middleton dresses for the elements in London The Duchess of Cambridge roared with laughter as she was shown an eco-friendly version of her future home today: Bug-ingham Palace. The wooden ‘mansion’ was filled with leaves and sticks and provides a natural home for caterpillars, woodlice, stag beetles and ladybirds - and even a nesting Robin. Pregnant Kate, still showing the merest hint of her baby bump in skin tight black jeans, knee-high leather boots and a black jumper under a green wax jacket, also showed off her green fingers for the cameras on a visit to Robin Hood Primary School in Rayne's Park, south west London, to celebrate their work with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Campaign for School Gardening. The Duchess of Cambridge finds her trusty £475 Penelope Chilvers boots so reliable she's been sporting them for more than a decade. Thrifty Kate, who is known for her love of recycling her wardrobe choices, was sporting the same pair of mid-le...
