The First Lady was humiliated on live TV while her and her husband visited Fort Myers, Florida to survey the damage after Hurricane Irma in 2017. During the end of their visit, Trump took a moment to thank first responders for their help.



However, while voicing his appreciation he managed to snub his own wife who was standing right beside him.



He said: “I just want to thank everybody – the first responders – on behalf of myself, our vice president and Melania who really wanted to be here”



Despite standing right next to her husband throughout his statement the President managed to completely overlook her.



When Trump made the blunder, Melania turned to him with a look of confusion.



The President’s slip up has taken Twitter by storm and has led to various users mocking Trump and his wife.



One user mockingly responded: “Oops he forgot he brought along a lookalike body double!”



Another user commented: “Well, he probably doesn’t recognize her. She’s not around him much.”



Another said: “Maybe that's the Melania clone.”



However, other Twitter users jumped to the President’s defence, claiming that he just stated that his wife wanted to be there.



One user said: “Well, to be fair, it sounds like he was pointed out the fact Melania wanted to come and that's why she's there.



“He's a master at clumsy wording, but that's how I took it.”



Another said: “I can't stand him, but yeah...
