Aimee Fuller reveals bruised face after fall in Big Air



After Katie Ormerod's untimely injury, Team GB's hopes of a medal in the Big Air jump were heaped on the shoulders of Aimee Fuller.



Making its debut in the Winter Olympics, the Big Air event is the snowboarders' equivalent to the Ski Jump but scores riders by their creativity in mid-air rather than the distance they can jump.



It was an instant hit in Pyeongchang, and it's no wonder given the level of risk and skill required for such an event. And it was a risk that definitely backfired for Fuller.



Due to Ormerod's withdrawal due to a fractured ankle suffered during training, Fuller stepped into the limelight.



Riders received two attempts in qualification ahead of the final, however, it wasn't to be for Fuller.



Having failed to land her first jump in qualification, it all came down to her second attempt to determine her chances of making Friday's final.



As the 26-year-old hurled herself down the slopes for her second and last attempt, she took off with the intention of completing two back flips on her way down. Unfortunately for her, she fell just short of her target and face-planted into the snow.



The impact was hard, and the fall was rough. Fuller slid on her front down to the bottom of the slope as her Winter Olympic dream came to an end.



Following the jump, she took to Twitter to reveal the damage of such a fall, revealing numerous grazes and marks across her face.



'Took 1 to the grill,' Fuller joked. But the show must go on as those who qualified look ahead to this week's final.



Austria's Anna Gasser is favourite for gold on Friday, with her closest challengers both from Japan as Yuka Fujimori and Reira Iwabuchi qualified in second and third respectively.



The men's event will begin on Wednesday.
