Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black are having a baby



Olympic athlete Tom Daley has announced he and his husband Dustin Lance Black  are having a baby.



The diving champion, 23, and his filmmaker partner, 43, confirmed the happy news with Valentine's Day Instagram photos today.



Tom shared a snap of the couple cosying up for the camera while holding an ultrasound scan, before Dustin shared a similar photo along with the caption: 'A very happy #ValentinesDay from ours to yours.'





A spokesman the Olympic diver said: 'Tom and Dustin are thrilled to share that they are expecting their first child in 2018.'



The couple have previously spoken about wanting children, saying they want to give their son or daughter as happy a childhood as they enjoyed.



The ultrasound picture suggests the couple are using a surrogate mother to become parents, rather than adopting. It is not known who the surrogate mother is.





The baby's development suggests the ultrasound picture was taken around the 20-week mark, meaning the couple are probably expecting to become fathers at the start of the summer.



Speaking last year, Daley revealed: 'Lance and I definitely want a family in the future – who knows when?



'We're both lucky to have supportive families and we want to share that with our own children.'



Dustin told OUT Magazine in 2016: 'We were so busy making all these plans - we both wanted to have children; we both wanted to build a home of our own someday.'



'I draw, so I was sketching little plans for houses on cliffs overlooking oceans, while Tom watched over my shoulder - it was a very grown-up version of playing house.'



'Marriage is the foundation to all of these other big plans we have. So we knew we were going to get engaged—it was just a matter of when, and who does it.'



The couple tied the knot in a lavish wedding ceremony at Bovey Castle, near Plymouth, Devon in May 2017 after getting engaged in October 2015.



They met at an industry event, when Tom made the first move by typing his phone number into Dustin's phone, with an invitation to call him.



Tom reportedly recreated the scene in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet at the couple's wedding when stood on the balcony in front of guests professing his love to his beau.



He is said to have delivered the star-crossed lover's famous lines: 'O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?'





The lovebirds were happily married in the Cathedral Room at the stately home before guests enjoyed a three-course meal. 



Since tying the knot, Lance Black has moved to London to live full-time with his husband, who now own a home together. 



Tom previously revealed that he knew he wanted to settle down with the film-maker, who won an Academy Award in 2009 for Milk, just one week into their romance - and it only took a month of being together before they had the discussion.



'After the first week we'd been together, I just knew,' the Olympian told The Mirror. 'And ever since then it's just felt like a waste of time not being married to Lance.'



When asked if he'd have seen himself getting married so young, he responded: 'Not at all. If you'd have told me five years ago I'd have been, 'Pff, yeah, sure.' But it just felt right. Within the first month we'd talked about it.'



Ahead of his husband's move to London Tom opened up about his long-distance relationship with Dustin, admitting it is 'far from perfect'.



The couple admitted some of the 'dramatic' changes to their relationship after struggling to cope with the distance of Black being based in LA.





Our relationship is far from perfect. We have really tough times and struggles,' Daley told Attitude Magazine.



'For example we went long distance for a very, very, long time: he was in LA, I was living in London. We would spend sometimes five weeks apart.



'And it's something that was really, really tough and we've had to make massive and dramatic changes in our lives in order to be able to live together and see each other all the time. So it's not all plain sailing.'



Speaking about the first time they ever met, five years ago, Daley revealed he had to be sneaky because he had not publicly declared he was gay.



In January the couple faced anguish after naked selfies of Tom in the bed he now shares with his husband were leaked online.





One of the images showed the athlete lying in bed looking into the camera with his Olympic ring on his finger - while in a second he is seen in an er*tic pose.



The athlete had instructed lawyers to send 'take-down' notices to websites hosting the pictures after they were uploaded to a US website and shared on Twitter.



A close friend told MailOnline: 'The pictures are from 2016, way before Tom and Lance were married.



'They are from a time where they split for a few months, which they have both talked about previously - but they reunited.'
