Police unable to identify mute teenage girl in Birmingham



Police have been left stumped by a mute teenage girl who was found wandering the streets of Birmingham clutching a pink blanket and a toy dog.



The girl, thought to be around 14, was found in what officers described as a 'distressed state' five days ago on Valentine's Day on New Street in the city centre.



After days of extensive investigations, officers are still none the wiser as to who she is and still haven't managed to communicate with her.





West Midlands Police has now asked the public to help identify the girl, who has been unable to verbally communicate and only gestures with her hands.

Inspector Ben Woodall, from West Midlands Police, said: 'We really need to know who this young lady is so we can make contact with her relatives or guardians.'



The youngster, who is around 5ft tall, was wearing a burgundy long-sleeved top, black leggings and blue slip on pumps with white polka dots.



She was carrying a pink blanket and small toy dog and has been taken to hospital amid concerns for her welfare.



Anyone who knows the identity of the youngster has been asked to call 101, quoting log 622 of 19 February.
