Canadian skier badly injured after Winter Olympics crash

Canadian skier Chris Del Bosco has been taken to hospital after suffering a horror fall at the Winter Olympics.

Del Bosco was taking part in a men's ski cross 1/8 event when he flipped while going over a jump, landing on his right side.

The athlete stayed on the ground for 10 minutes before being stretchered off by medics and is now in stable condition with a pelvic injury

Del Bosco was sitting last during the event in Pyeongchang on Wednesday when he attempted to climb through the air to nab a qualifying place, CBC reports.

He had looked unsteady on his skis coming into the jump, before turning over in the air in front of shocked spectators.

Medics were called to the track and as he was stretchered away, he flashed a thumbs up to the crowd.

Jason Blevins, a reporter for the Denver Post, tweeted that Del Bosco had asked for course changes in training so skiers 'didn't send too deep off the jumps'.

He was the third athlete who had to be helped from the course by medics after another dangerous day on the mountains in South Korea.

Australian Anton Grimus was also hampered by injury having fallen in training, according to Fox Sports.

Despite injuring his shoulder the skier made it out for his qualifying heat, but finished a distance fourth out of four.
