Image
Miss Columbia hugs Steve Harvey after last year's gaffe NEWS: goo.gl/a3kAcQ Miss Columbia showed there no hard feelings after she hugged Steve Harvey, just over a year after his infamous gaffe when he incorrectly announced the winner of the Miss Universe 2015 pageant. The excruciating moment was matched by millions and sparked an angry backlash against the host who swiftly took to Twitter to apologize. But it appears that Harvey has now put all that behind him. During the dress rehearsals for the 65th Miss Universe which will air live on ABS-CBN tomorrow, he shared a hug with the new Miss Universe Colombia 2016, Andrea Tovar. Sir Mo Farah Olympic champion 'relieved' after US travel clarification

Image
Sir Mo Farah Olympic champion 'relieved' after US travel clarification NEWS: goo.gl/a3kAcQ Britain's four-time Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah says he is "relieved" he can return to his US home after it was clarified that President Donald Trump's travel ban did not apply to him. Somali nationals are among those banned from travelling to the US under the executive order issued on Friday. That had applied to Farah, who was born in Somalia, until the announcement by the UK Foreign Office late on Sunday. Farah, 33, called Trump's policy "divisive and discriminatory". Trump's executive order halted the entire US refugee programme and also instituted a 90-day travel ban for nationals from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson held conversations with the US government on Sunday. The Foreign Office then advised British travellers that dual citizens were only affected if travelling t...

Queen Elizabeth made him a knight; Trump made him an 'alien'

Queen Elizabeth made him a knight; Trump made him an 'alien' NEWS: goo.gl/a3kAcQ Farah, 33, was born in Somalia but lives in Oregon. He arrived in Britain at age 8 and was knighted by the queen this year for "services to British sport." While Farah is a British citizen, he said he was worried that he may not be allowed back in the U.S. because Somalia is one of the nation's affected by Trump's executive order to temporarily ban people from seven Muslim-majority countries. "I have been proud to represent my country, win medals for the British people and receive the greatest honor of a knighthood," Farah said. "My story is an example of what can happen when you follow polices of compassion and understanding, not hate and isolation." Farah is the 2012 and 2016 Olympic gold medalist in both the 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter races. He has nine international athletics titles.

US travel ban UK dual nationals not affected says Foreign Office

Image
US travel ban UK dual nationals not affected says Foreign Office NEWS: goo.gl/a3kAcQ The US border clampdown should not affect UK nationals travelling to the US, even if they were born in one of the countries on which restrictions have been placed, officials say. But new guidance says those with dual nationality travelling from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen could face extra border checks. Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson earlier contacted US officials for clarification over the 90-day ban on visa holders from the seven countries ordered by President Trump. Earlier Mr Johnson tweeted it was "divisive and wrong" to stigmatise people on the basis of nationality. It came after Prime Minister Theresa May came under fire for not condemning the order earlier. A spokesman for British Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah, who was born in Somalia and lives in the US, said he was "relieved" to learn that the order would not apply to him, but said he ...

Why Jackie O is STILL the First Lady of fashion

Image
Why Jackie O is STILL the First Lady of fashion NEWS: goo.gl/a3kAcQ Rarely have I encountered a woman so utterly elegant as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. She was America’s First Lady — and still plain Jackie Kennedy — when I was invited to an informal supper with Jackie and her husband at the White House. I was working in New York as a fashion model, and was married to my first husband Robin Douglas-Home, whose Uncle Alec became Britain’s Prime Minister soon afterwards. Britain’s Ambassador to the U.S., David Ormsby-Gore, was a family friend and the reason why, aged 22, I found myself sitting next to President John F. Kennedy eating a fried chicken dinner. It was a Sunday night in October 1962 and — although I had no idea at the time — the eve of the Cuban Missile Crisis, one of the major Cold War confrontations. Yet the President acted as if he hadn’t a care in the world. We were a small, intimate party, and as JFK sat down next to me I remember Jackie’s slight froideur; pe...

William and Kate Middleton get hedge to give them privacy

Image
They are known for being concerned about their privacy and eager to shield their young children from the public eye. So now that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are moving their family back to Kensington Palace from Norfolk, they are clearly not taking any chances. A team of gardeners and construction workers have begun planting an 820ft-long wall of conifers along the western side of the royal residence in London. The move, thought to be costing taxpayers more than £20,000, will block the view of anyone hoping to get a glimpse of the family. It is not clear what their neighbours think of the barrier. That area of the grounds backs on to Kensington Palace Gardens, which is known as Billionaires’ Row and is regarded as the most expensive street in Britain, with houses worth up to £100 million. It is popular with tourists and there are also numerous embassies on the road, including those of Russia and Israel, which bring a lot of footfall. Work started on the L-shaped line o...

Trump first president to not wait for wife at inauguration

Image
Since day one of his candidacy, Donald Trump has made it clear that he isn't one for niceties. And true to form, rather than waiting to accompany Melania as he exited the car at the White House last week to greet the Obama's, he left her for dust and shot up the steps alone. This un-gentlemnanly behavior was in marked contrast to his immediate predecessors, who have all calmly waited for their wives to reach their side before the inaugural greeting. However, last week, Trump appeared so keen to meet Barack and Michelle Obama, that he dispensed with the pleasantries and left Melania and her Tiffany box at the curb. Indeed, many have speculated that Michelle Obama's stern expression at the steps was not for the gift she was presented, but merely her distaste for Trump's lack of manners towards his wife. After Trump had said hello to the pair with a cheeky handshake, the two couples smiled for the cameras. But then Trump barreled through the door on his own, leavi...

President Trump mocks BBC's political editor

Image
President Trump mocks BBC's political editor NEWS: goo.gl/a3kAcQ President Donald Trump joked 'there goes that relationship' to Theresa May after he was quizzed on his support for torture and calls to ban Muslims by the BBC's political editor. Challenged about his controversial views on torture, Russia, stopping Muslims entering the US and punishment for torture by Laura Kuenssberg, Mr Trump joked to Mrs May: 'This was your choice of a question? There goes that relationship!' As Mr Trump looked round the press pack at the White House aghast at the question, Mrs May laughed awkwardly in response. Mrs May, who became the first world leader to visit the new commander-in-chief, said: 'I have been listening to the president and the president has been listening to me. That's the point of having a conversation and a dialogue.' She added: 'There will be times when we disagree and issues on which we disagree. The point of the special relationsh...

Image
Trump and Theresa May hold first meeting at White house NEWS: goo.gl/a3kAcQ Donald Trump and Theresa May walked hand in hand at the White House today as they hailed a resurgent Special Relationship - and he insisted Brexit would be 'wonderful'. The President said he was 'honoured' by Mrs May's visit and that relations between the two long-standing allies had never been stronger as the leaders held a press conference at the White House. He also signalled he had reassured Mrs May about America's commitment to NATO and pledged to continue the working relationship between the two countries. The British Prime Minister also revealed that the President and First Lady have accepted an invitation from the Queen to make a state visit to the UK later this year with full pomp and ceremony. Mrs May has become the first world leader to visit the new commander-in-chief, sealing their fledgling alliance with a warm handshake. And the new leader of the free world sa...

Kylie Jenner flaunts bikini body on Snapchat in Costa Rica

Image
NEWS: goo.gl/a3kAcQ It's certainly not the usual family-friendly vacation activity. But for the Kardashian-Jenner clan, it seems posing in bikinis is the perfect way to spend a holiday together. Kylie Jenner shared a series of Snapchats of herself flaunting her curves in the mirror on Friday, as she joined her sisters and mother in Costa Rica. The 19-year-old's booty was on show in the grey two-piece, which highlighted her tiny waist and shapely rear. A second Snapchat showed her toned waist, while in a third she played around with a filter of herself wearing a pair of fawn ears. Another filter gave the reality show stunner the ears, nose and tongue of a dog. A huge pile of hair brushes sat in front of a large mirror - surely for the use of the Kardashian-Jenner's glam squad, who are always on hand to primp and preen. Kylie certainly wasn't the only one showing off her figure, with big sister Kourtney Kardashian, 37, joining her in sharing bikini selfies. ...

Trump Mexico wall building to start within months

Image
Trump Mexico wall building to start within months NEWS: goo.gl/a3kAcQ President Donald Trump has started the clock ticking on his pledge to build a wall between the United States and Mexico, and believes construction will start 'in months.' He spoke in his first interview since being inaugurated, with ABC Nightly News anchor David Muir. ABC News broke into lunch-hour programming – Washington, D.C. viewers missed a few minutes of 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?' – in order to broadcast a brief teaser from Wednesday's Oval Office interview. Construction will begin 'as soon as we can, as soon as we can physically do it,' Trump said. Asked if it would be just a matter of months, the president agreed. 'I would say in months, yeah. I would say in months. Certainly planning is starting immediately.' Trump repeated his frequent campaign claim that Mexico will, one way or another, 'absolutely, 100 per cent' pay for the wall. The presiden...

Fight fire Trump says open to torturing waterboarding ISIS

Image
Fight fire Trump says open to torturing waterboarding ISIS NEWS: goo.gl/a3kAcQ President Donald Trump left the door open on Wednesday for a return to 9/11-era U.S. policy on torturing suspected terrorists, saying he believes it works. 'I want to keep our country safe,' he told ABC News, referring to America's protracted battle against the ISIS terror army. 'When they're shooting – when they're chopping off the heads of our people, and other people, when they're chopping off the heads of people because they happen to be a Christian, in the Middle East, when ISIS is doing things that nobody has ever heard of since Medieval times, would I feel strongly about waterboarding?' he asked in an Oval Office interview. 'As far as I'm concerned, we have to fight fire with fire.' Trump said he would defer to the judgment of Secretary of Defense Gen. James Mattis and CIA Director Mike Pompeo, both of whom are staunchly against torturing terror ...

Hillary considers TV show for ANOTHER White House run

Image
Hillary considers TV show for ANOTHER White House run NEWS: goo.gl/a3kAcQ Hillary Clinton is considering another run for president – and is mulling the idea of launching a television talk show to soften the ground for 2020. Clinton would be 73 years old if she were to challenge President Donald Trump – again – and win the White House the next time around. Launching a TV program now would make her America's second-oldest female news or talk show host on the small screen, after only Joy Behar of 'The View.' Author Ed Klein wrote Wednesday on his blog that according to a Clinton insider, the former secretary of state is open to the idea. 'She thinks being the host of a popular TV show would energize the Democratic Party base and her tens of millions of fans,' the unnamed source said, according to Klein. 'It's a way to make a comeback and position herself for another run at the White House starting in a year or so.' Clinton, Klein writes, recen...

Trump’s bodyguard may have worn prosthetic hands

Image
Questions about whether a Secret Service officer wore a prosthetic hand to the inaugural parade to conceal a gun to defend the Trumps have been put to rest. The theory spread like wildfire online after President Trump's inauguration last Friday. They were based on several images that seemed to show the officer's right hand frozen in motion, and many believed he wore a prosthetic to conceal a gun he was holding under his coat. But that has now been disproven thanks to another image and video that shows the officer bending one of his fingers. On Friday there was high security as the presidential entourage of limousines traveled for more than two miles down towards the White House, occasionally getting out to greet the crowd. The last President to be assassinated was John F Kennedy, in Dallas, in 1963 but Trump has polarized opinion in America on a scale never seen before and the Secret Service is clearly jittery about his security. In March 1981, only two months after ...

Mother in Iran has her five year prison sentence confirmed

Image
A British mother being held in Iran has had her five-year prison sentence confirmed today - despite her husband launching a campaign to bring her home. Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, 38, was arrested at Tehran Airport in Iran on April 3 while trying to leave the country with her toddler daughter, Gabriella. She was originally put behind bars for an alleged plot to topple the government in the capital Tehran. But her husband Richard Ratcliffe claimed she was being used as a 'bargaining chip' between Britain and Iran. Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe, from Hampstead, north west London, was sentenced to five years in prison in September after a conviction on unspecified 'national security-related' offences following a trial before a revolutionary court in Tehran. However, Mr Ratcliffe said Iran claimed his wife was a 'spy' and she remains in the country with family after authorities seized her passport. It comes as two more charges are said to have been levelled agains...

Defenceless dog was shot in the face 50 times.English bull terrier

Image
These shocking images show the horrific damage caused to a defenceless dog when he was blasted in the face from point-blank range with a shotgun. The attack left English bull terrier Eric with more than 50 lead pellets embedded underneath in his skin, with some even becoming lodged in his bone. The injuries were sustained at some point in Turkey before March 2015, when his current owner Liz Haslam began the long process of adopting him. Ms Haslam, who runs Beds for Bullies dog rehoming centre, only discovered the pellets after she took him to Swayne and Partners vet when the inside of his mouth swelled up. The 48-year-old thought he had an abscess, but when the vets carried out an x-ray they were horrified to discover the pellets. Eric is almost blind and it is thought this was probably caused by the blast. On further inspection of the swelling it was discovered that it had been caused by half a tooth from another dog that had become lodged in Eric's mouth. This sugges...

Scientists name moth after DONALD TRUMP

Image
A biologist has named a newly discovered moth after Donald Trump because of the overwhelming similarity between the insect's hair and that of the newly installed president. Canadian biologist Vazrick Nazari was examining samples contained within the Bohart Museum of Entomology when he noticed the resemblance between the moth and the billionaire former business mogul. On further examination, Nazari believed he found a new species of moth that had not previously been documented so got the privilege of naming the insect. The Neopalpa donaldtrumpi lives in southern parts of California and Baja California in Mexico, but unfortunately it is under threat. Nazari outlined his findings in the journal ZooKeys, along with photographs of the new specimen. He uses the journal to describe the insect in minute details. Unfortunately for Mr Trump, the new moth is rather small, measuring on average about 3.6mm to 4mm.  According to the Nazari's description of the new moth, it can be ...

Trump touts 'beautiful' letter left for him in by Obama

Image
President Trump revealed that President Obama had kept to tradition and left him a letter – but wouldn't tell the world what the outgoing Democrat said. 'I just went to the Oval Office and found this beautiful letter from President Obama,' Trump said at a swearing-in ceremony for his senior staff at the White House today. Before getting to the business at hand, he deployed his latest dig at the media. 'And we won't even tell the press what's in the letter,' he said, receiving laughs. Trump may not reveal Obama's words of advice, but on Friday the National Archives released the note that Obama had received from outgoing Republican President George W. Bush on his inauguration day. While Obama had blasted Bush's record throughout the 2008 presidential campaign, Bush welcomed the young Democrat into the White House in 2009 with open arms. Bush wished Obama a 'congratulations' and said 'you have just begun a fantastic chapter in your l...

Conway says Trump isn't going to release tax returns

Image
Kellyanne Conway said President Donald Trump would not be sharing his tax returns, despite the existence of a petition that has garnered more than 212,000 signatures asking for their release since Friday.  'The White House response is that he's not going to release his tax returns,' Conway said. 'We litigated this all through the election. People don't care. They voted for him.' Conway, the counselor to the president, was doing the Sunday show rounds today and was asked about the tax returns by ABC News' George Stephanopoulos. As Trump was delivering his inaugural address Friday, WhiteHouse.Gov switched over from President Obama's administration's pages to those of President Trump. The 'We the People' online petitioning system remained the same and a petition asking for the release of the tax returns almost immediately popped up, according to Yahoo News. The petition asked the government to 'Immediately release Donald Trump's ...
