Hillary fearful at inauguration according to body language

Hillary Clinton put on a brave face Friday afternoon as she accompanied her husband Bill to President Donald Trump's inaugural address, a little over two months after she was defeated by the billionaire businessman in the election.

And while Hillary may have looked calm and composed, and even plastered on a smile for her appearance at the Capital, she was actually quite 'fearful.'

That is according to body language expert Patti Wood, who took a look at the key players during the inauguration on Friday and revealed to DailyMail.com how they were really feeling on the big day.





Wood also noted that there was a real bond between Barack and Michelle Obama and Melania Trump, who the couple tried to put at ease ahead of her husband's inaugural address.

By going out of the way greeting her warmly and each putting an arm around her as they went in the door.

Meanwhile, President Trump himself is a bit selfish according to Wood, especially when it comes to how he treats his wife, but it is clear that he respects Barack.

And, as has been said time and time again for the past eight years, appearances continue to suggest that Barack and Michelle really do have a remarkable relationship built on respect.

Wood first offered her observations of Clinton, and noted right of the bat that she did look better than she has of recent at the inauguration.

'She looked really fresh and had high energy,' said Wood while pointing out that this is not always the case with the 69-year-old politician.

The focus then turned to the adjustments Clinton could be seen making in the moments before she exited the Capitol and appeared on stage for Trump's address on Friday, her biggest public appearance since she lost the election.

'She's getting ready. She's pulling back her shoulders taking a deep breath and stiffening her arms,' said Wood, who noted that Clinton is in many ways like a solider when it comes to how she prepares and puts herself together in these moments.



Clinton then noticeably freezes however, which Wood classified as a fight or flight response, with the lack of movement being the flight in his case.

'She is steeling herself to make this entrance and her freeze response shows that she has a stark fear about what is going to happen.'

When she eventually does unfreeze, Clinton then did her other standard move of looking off in the distance and putting on her 'painted smile' said Wood, which is 'all show.'

Clinton then began her walk out.

'Her arms are frozen at her side, a weak position, and she is steeling herself as if she is about to surrender,' said Wood.

'I've got to be a solider, I've got to power on.'

Clinton did not show power though when she began to descend the stairs to her seat however claims Wood, and was instead revealing her 'weakness' by starring down at her shoes the entire way and not out to the crowd.

'It showed that she had a strict need to watch her way,' said Wood.

As for her private moments with her husband, Wood said that they were 'very formal' and 'lacked warmth,' pointing out the wooden manner in which Bill gripped his wife's arm.



That is not the case with the Obamas however, who Wood said are all warmth.

She used as an example their first appearance on Friday when they greeted the Trumps at the White House.

After Melania gave Michelle a Tiffany box with a gift and the exiting First Lady struggled to figure out where to place the present, Barack walked around the group and up to his wife to immediately take the box from her and deal with the situation.

'It was just magical,' said Wood.

That dynamic is not at play in Donald and Melania's relationship though said Wood, based on what she saw Friday.

She pointed out that when the couple arrived to meet the Obamas, Donald exits the car and bounds up the stairs to greet Barack and Michelle, while leaving Melania to her own devices.

'It's Interesting that Trump got out of the car and came up the stairs and shook hands instead of helping his wife out of the car, waiting for her, or even looking back for her,' said Wood.

'He could have even held her arm to help her up those stairs. Yes, he is about to be president, but there are etiquette rules, and these behaviors showed no care or respect or warmth for her as he came in and that did not change during the greeting exchange. '
