Miss Columbia hugs Steve Harvey after last year's gaffe
Miss Columbia hugs Steve Harvey after last year's gaffe
NEWS: goo.gl/a3kAcQ
Miss Columbia showed there no hard feelings after she hugged Steve Harvey, just over a year after his infamous gaffe when he incorrectly announced the winner of the Miss Universe 2015 pageant.
Ariadna Gutierrez, Miss Colombia 2015, was left in floods of tears after Harvey crowned her as Miss Universe - only to crown another contestant Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, the winner moments later.
The excruciating moment was matched by millions and sparked an angry backlash against the host who swiftly took to Twitter to apologize.
But it appears that Harvey has now put all that behind him.
During the dress rehearsals for the 65th Miss Universe which will air live on ABS-CBN tomorrow, he shared a hug with the new Miss Universe Colombia 2016, Andrea Tovar.
'Steve, no more mistakes,' Tovar joked after their embrace at the Mall of Asia Arena Sunday, ABS reports.
Harvey has described the moment he announced the wrong winner in December 2015, as 'four minutes of pure hell.'
Gutierrez was still blowing kisses and waving to her adoring fans when Harvey, who realized his terrible error, was forced to break the news.
'Folks, I have to apologize,' he told the crowd, the shame already evident on his face, 'The first runner-up is Colombia.
Miss Philippines stared wide-eyed at the audience, her lip quivering as Miss USA whispered into her ear and she realized what exactly those words meant.
'Miss Universe 2015,' Harvey then dramatically clarified, 'Is Miss Philippines.'
The crowd, and audience viewing the event on TV, watched in heartbreak and horror as the crown had to be removed from Gutierrez and placed on Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach's head.
Harvey immediately tweeted after the show, spelling both women's countries wrong as he tweeted: 'I want to apologize emphatically to Miss Philippians and Miss Columbia.
He then deleted the tweet and re-wrote it, saying he felt terrible and apologized 'wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines' for his 'huge mistake'. 'Secondly, I'd like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well,' he wrote in a separate tweet. 'Again it was an honest mistake.'
'This was a terribly honest human mistake and I am so regretful.'
'I don't want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants. They were all amazing,' he continued to tweet, before once again 'emphatically' apologizing to Gutierrez and Wurtzbach.
Social media exploded with criticism for Harvey over the incident.
Even fellow celebrities took aim at the host's mistake.
Just a few weeks later, Jamie Foxx pretended to announce the wrong movie at the 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards in January 2016.
The 48-year-old jokingly named Straight Outta Compton as the winner for the category, Best Original Score for a motion picture, while presenting at the awards show on Sunday in Beverly Hills.
Before opening the envelope, the actor said: 'And the winner is...Straight Outta Compton,' even though the the film was not nominated.
His co-host and the audience burst out laughing at the nod to Harvey's infamous gaffe.
The 65th Miss Universe, presented by Harvey and model Ashley Graham, will air live tomorrow.
Dairy Milk bars are being made in Poland as US owner of Cadbury breaks key promise The US owner of Cadbury is breaking a key promise and making an increasing amount of its iconic Dairy Milk chocolate bars in Poland rather than at its British base. Mondelez, which was created by Kraft, is making large 300g bars of Dairy Milk and some classic size 95g bars of the brand in its expanded factories in Wroclaw. This breaks a pledge given in the wake of Kraft’s bitter takeover of the British company seven years ago that it would continue to make the sweets at its historic Bournville home in the West Midlands. The Mail on Sunday found large Dairy Milk bars – brandishing a specific code on the wrapper indicating they were made in Poland – on sale in the UK in various major retailers, while the 95g bars were on sale in smaller shops. Last night Mondelez insisted that the production in Poland of 95g bars was a ‘temporary move’ because Bournville had been busy. But many traditionalists...
Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor top 10 moments Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are masters of their craft but also world class promoters. In Showtime's four-part All Access programme, a behind-the-scenes look at both men not only helped hype the August 26 showdown but provided plenty of insight and entertaining moments. Sportsmail takes a look back at the top 10 highlights including Mayweather playing the cowboy and a trip to the Irishman's first ever boxing gym. Mayweather stacking cash What would a show around the 'Money Man' be if it failed to illustrate his ludicrous lifestyle. Mayweather has no qualms about flashing the cash and is seen taking out huge stacks out of a backpack. The 40-year-old is also filmed on board his private jet, tipping the pilots $1000 dollars each. Everyone knows Mayweather's lifestyle is as lavish as it comes but to see him throwing around that kind of money in it's physical form makes you stop in your tracks. Mc...
Prince Harry's style makeover by Meghan Markle Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle went public with their romance, the Royal is rarely seen without a beaming smile. But Harry's evident happiness isn't the only impact his soon-to-be wife has had on his appearance - it seems his wardrobe has had something of an overhaul, too. Having once stuck to a reliable uniform of suits and ties for royal engagements, and chinos, colourful polo-shirts and sports jackets while off-duty, the Prince has displayed a noticeably more dapper style since he began stepping out with Meghan on his arm - and the change has not gone unnoticed by style commentators. In the weeks since their engagement was announced in November, the Prince has been snapped in more earthy and neutral coloured ensembles and well-tailored suits as seen during his appearance in Brixton on Tuesday. As well as opting for a more sophisticated colour palette, he has even been seen sartorially in sync with the...
