Julia Louis Dreyfus reveals she is battling breast cancer/2017/Emmy win
Actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus has revealed she is battling breast cancer after being diagnosed one day after her record-setting Emmy win.
The 56-year-old Veep star took to Twitter on Thursday sharing the shocking news with a photo of a personal note.
'Just when you thought…' she tweeted, with the image attached. '1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I'm the one.
'The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family, and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union.
'The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let's fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality.'
No other details about her condition were immediately available. It's unclear if there is a history of breast cancer in her family.
The actress' rep told US Weekly: 'Julia is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support and well wishes.'
Earlier this month, the Veep star won her sixth consecutive Emmy.
She set the record for most wins for a performance in the same role for the same series with that win.
HBO told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement that the mother-of-two learned about her diagnosis just one day after the Emmy awards.
'Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time,' HBO said in the statement to THR.
'We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of Veep.'
The production schedule for Veep will be adjusted as needed, HBO said.
It was recently announced that the upcoming 7th season of the Veep will be its last.
'We have a great final season that we're about to start filming with a lot of surprises that our fabulous writers have cooked up,' Louis-Dreyfus said during her Emmy acceptance speech.
'We did have a story line about an impeachment, but we abandoned that because we were worried that someone else might get to it first.'
The actress has two children with actor Brad Hall, who she has been married to for 20 years.
She is best known for her role as Elaine Benes on Seinfeld.
Fellow celebrities, including her Veep co-stars, shared their support for Louis-Dreyfus on social media after her announcement.
Veep creator Armando Lannucci tweeted: 'It is possible to be dignified and fierce at the same time. I, and millions others, send Julia our love and support.
Her co-star Tony Hale tweeted: 'We love this woman.'
Actress Christina Applegate, who won her fight against breast cancer in 2008, immediately tweeted Louis-Dreyfus and wrote: 'Mama, find me. Let's talk if you want'.
Applegate had a double mastectomy almost a decade ago after receiving her diagnosis.
Actor and film director Mark Dupass also tweeted: 'Sending u all the love all the love all the love...'
Actor Michael McKean wrote: 'Cancer is no match for you. Stomp it good. xox'
Actress Debra Messing tweeted: 'J sending all my healing energy your way. You are incredible to use this moment as an opportunity to support others. Thank you. Much love xd'
Comedian Kathy Griffin also tweeted: '1/ Sad to think we're in a place where u may have to actually worry about accidentally reading horrifying responses if u post, but ... major respect, compassionate & love to Julia & all the people who will be helped be her honesty.'
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women.
More than 250,000 new cases will be diagnosed in women in 2017, according to the American Cancer Society.

With his gap-toothed grin and cheeky expression, it is clear that Prince George is growing up fast. Two pictures of the future king have been released by Kensington Palace to mark his seventh birthday today. Gone are his chubby cheeks and the frilled Peter Pan-collar shirts that his mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, so loved to dress him in as a toddler and beyond. Instead we see a little boy, tousled blond hair swept aside and grinning, wearing a camouflage green T-shirt. An appropriate choice given he will one day inherit his great-grandmother’s mantle as Head of the Armed Forces. George is already said to be obsessed with helicopters like his father. In another picture he is wearing a favourite olive green polo shirt and shorts. The pictures were taken by his mother Kate at the family’s Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, where George and his siblings, Princess Charlotte, five, and two-year-old Prince Louis, have spent lockdown. Kate and Prince William are planning a party for ...
