Kate Middleton “Twins” Reports Proven Wrong After Baby Boy’s Birth

Kate Middleton gave birth to a baby boy on Monday, following months of wrong reports claiming the Duchess of Cambridge was expecting twins. Gossip Cop debunked these claims when they first emerged, and the arrival of the child has proven them all false.

Kensington Palace announced Monday that Prince William and Middleton welcomed their third child, a baby boy, at St. Mary’s Hospital in London. In February, however, Life & Style published a bogus cover story insisting that Middleton was pregnant with two girls. This clearly inaccurate scoop came from supposed “royals insiders,” who further asserted that one of the twins would be named “Diana” in honor of Prince William’s late mother.

The untrustworthy outlet went on to say that the Duke and Duchess were ecstatic about the “double baby news,” while Queen Elizabeth was “overjoyed to be welcoming two new great-grandchildren.” This wasn’t even the first time Life & Style made such a claim. Last October, the tabloid also published a cover story declaring, “Kate’s Big News: She’s Having Twins!”

Meanwhile, OK! published a phony cover story in December announcing “Kate’s Baby Surprise: Twin Girls!” The publication claimed the secret scoop “leaked from Kensington Palace” after Middleton “confessed the news to a close friend.” Outlets such as New Idea, HollywoodLife and Celebrity Insider regurgitated these false reports without bothering to do any fact-checking.

Gossip Cop, however, reached out to Kensington Palace when these various articles were published, and we were assured the Duchess wasn’t expecting twins. Gossip Cop was also pointed to Kensington Palace’s official statement regarding the baby news, which was confirmed in October 2017 and stated, “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to confirm they are expecting a baby in April 2018.” Baby, not babies. As a side note, some other tabloids previously claimed Middleton’s baby would be a girl, but that’s a less egregious error than attempting to birth nonexistent twins.

As for the real royal baby, Kensington Palace revealed on Monday, “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth.” The statement continued, “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
