Eugenie recycles Erdem dress she’s had for two years



With the eyes of the world on her, it's only natural Princess Eugenie wanted to look her best for her engagement shoot.



So it came as something of a surprise when the royal opted for a dress that she first wore two years ago for a similarly high-profile photocall.



Prince Andrew's youngest daughter chose the £1,288 Erdem dress for a 2016 interview in Harper's Bazaar when she opened about her day-to-day life as a modern-day Princess.



Her choice to recycle her frock is something of a departure from royal tradition, with recent royal brides pulling out all the stops for their engagement outfits. 





Eugenie wore the floral, cap-sleeve 'Hetty' dress once again in June 2017, for the UNAIDS Gala in Basel, Switzerland.



However she did add 'something new' to her outfit with a pair of black satin heels from Jimmy Choo.





When Kate Middleton's engagement to Prince William was announced in November 2010, she snapped up a £430 Issa wrap dress which subsequently sold out from Harvey Nichols within 24 hours and was unavailable to buy in 43 countries.



And Meghan Markle pulled out all the stops with a $730 ((£537) Line coat, Aquazzura heels and P.A.R.O.S.H dress for her November 2017 engagement photocall with Prince Harry.





The cream belted number is $750 (£564) and according to WWD, the coat was a freebie gifted to her by friend Jessica Mulroney.



Eugenie, who is eighth-in-line to the throne, announced her engagement to nightclub entrepreneur turned wine merchant Jack Brooksbank on Monday, with both her parents declaring they were 'delighted' at the news.



The pair posed in the Picture Gallery at Buckingham Palace for their engagement snaps, shot by Press Association photographer Jonathan Brady.



They are set to tie the knot at St. George's Chapel Windsor in the autumn.
