Melania Trump wears white at State of the Union address

While female Democrats donned all black for the State of the Union as a show of solidarity with all victims of sexual harassment, Melania Trump still managed to ensure that all eyes were on her by dressing in stark contrast and wearing an all-white suit.

The first lady's custom Dior suit was also made for her in what was once considered the Democrats' signature color; last year, members of the party wore all-white, a color favored by the suffragettes, and one that was famously worn by Hillary Clinton throughout much of her presidential campaign. 

This year however, after dozens of reports of sexual abuse on Capitol Hill, the Democrats chose to wear black to 'shout back at the president', who himself has been accused of sexual misconduct by at least 17 women. 

Democrat congresswoman Lois Frankel said the goal was to send 'a message of solidarity with those who are seeking economic security and [bring about] a cultural shift that enables men and women to work side by side, in safety and dignity, free of sexual harassment, and to be paid fairly for the value of their work.'

However Melania's decision to wear all-white totally outshone the Democrats' all-black protest, with the first lady not only stealing their thunder - but their former favored clothing color as well. 

Putt in on an incredibly glamorous show, the mother-of-one paired her Dior suit and Dolce & Gabbana shirt with some Christian Louboutin heels and managed to steal the show in the House chamber by entering separately from her husband in a break with tradition.

Putting her own very glamorous spin on the look, Melania's suit featured cropped straight-leg pants with a crisp pleat down the center of each leg. Her perfectly-tailored single-button jacket featured a satin collar and pockets on either hip. 

She kept her accessories to a minimum, wearing a pair of simple nude Louboutin pumps, and - rather tellingly - her large diamond engagement ring. 

Melania's hair appeared to have been cut into a slightly shorter style, which she wore sleek and straight, with several layers helping to add volume to the look. She then finished off the look with some glamorous make-up, opting for plenty of bronzer, a pale pink lip, and a subtle smokey eye.

Meanwhile, hours before the State of the Union address, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi gathered together her fellow Democratic women – and some men too – for a photo-op, as they showed off their black outfits. 

The lawmakers were taking a page from the women of Hollywood, who sported black gowns to the Golden Globes to pay homage to the 'Me Too' and 'Time's Up' movements. 

The Democrats followed the lead of Oprah Winfrey too, who had brought up the rape and subsequent activism of the late Recy Taylor. 

For the State of the Union, the lawmakers sported pink 'RECY' pins too. 

The African-American Taylor, who died last month at the age of 97, was gang-raped in Alabama as a young wife and mother by six white men.  

Melania's choice of outfit also drew similarities to the ensembles that Hillary Clinton became famous for during her presidential campaign.

Hillary wore white on several occasions during the presidential race, including a number of pivotal events - the night she accepted the Democratic nomination, and the third and final debate ahead of the election, as well as to Trump's inauguration.  

In October 2016, she achieved viral fame as a result of the white multi-buttoned suit she wore for the third presidential debate, with thousands taking to Twitter to praise Hillary's outfit, noting the suffragette inspiration, and the patriotic elements of the look. 

Melania also delivered a very public message prior to the State of the Union itself when she chose to host a separate reception for the first couple's State of the Union guests, before traveling to Capitol Hill in a different motorcade than her husband. 

Upon arriving in the House chamber and acknowledging the loud applause and standing ovation with a beaming smile and a wave, Melania took her seat alongside her personally-invited guests, as well as Vice President Mike Pence's wife Karen.

'Mrs. Trump is honoring her guests for the true heroes they are,' the first lady's spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham told CNN. 

'In addition to holding a White House reception and photo opportunity for them and their friends and family, she is accompanying them to the Capitol.' 

Grisham said that once FLOTUS arrived at the Capitol, she and Mrs. Pence would hold a 'more intimate meet-and-greet to engage with them on a personal level prior to the speech'.
