Grammys 2018 Rihanna wears gaping trenchcoat

She skipped the red carpet at this year's Grammy Awards.

But Rihanna was onstage at Madison Square Garden to accept her prize for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with Kendrick Lamar.

Skipping a fancy gown, the 29-year-old instead dressed in a gleaming brown trench coat, worn tantalizingly loose to reveal her braless figure.

Winning for their record LOYALTY, Rihanna and Kendrick heaped praise on each other during their speeches.

Compton-born Kendrick spoke first, and made sure to put aside a thank you to the 'fans out there' of his work.

As he wrapped up, he turned to his collaborator, who was standing behind him and said: 'Hey, Rihanna, what's up, man?'

'Hey!' said Rihanna with a smile.

Kendrick turned back to the audience and said of Rihanna: 'She came through and gassed me on that record, gassed me on my own song and whatnot, man.'

Holding up his trophy, the 30-year-old rapper proclaimed: 'This record - this really belongs to her, real talk, so yeah.'

Rihanna took the mic and said: 'Thank you, Kendrick, for giving me this incredible opportunity for being on such a great record.'

She continued: 'I love this record and I’m honored to do this with you. Congrats. You’ve earned this, man.'

The Barbadian beauty wore a a Le Vian ombre chocolate diamond necklace and a cognac quartz earrings, complementing the coat with matching boots.

Meanwhile, Kendrick - who had the second most nominations of any artist that evening, bested only by Jay-Z - wore a black coat over a black shirt and pants.

In his lapel, he wore a white rose, indicating his sympathy for the Time's Up movement against sexual misconduct in the entertainment industry.

Kendrick opened up the Grammy's with a bravura performance of his number XXX, and Rihanna was scheduled to perform later in the program.

They were presented with their prize by the duo of 39-year-old John Legend and 91-year-old Tony Bennett, who got in a bit of singing themselves.

As they introduced the award they were giving out, they broke into an a cappella rendition of Theme From New York, New York by John Kander and Fred Ebb.

That song was originally written for the eponymous 1977 Martin Scorcese movie, in which it was sung by Liza Minnelli.

The most famous version, however, was sung a view years later by Frank Sinatra, a crooner who like Tony is associated with big band standards.

Ever the fashionista, Rihanna switched into a sizzling metallic ensemble after joining Lamar to accept his honor.

The Wild Thoughts songstress flaunted her flat belly in a patterned gold tie-up top which plunged to reveal a hint of her iconic winged torso tattoo.

Bad girl RiRi, as she's known on Instagram, paired the on-trend top with a long skirt that featured shiny lamé insets.

The Barbados-born beauty accessorized with solid-gold hoops and several chunky rings.

The singer/makeup mogul kept her hair in tight ringlets while dusting a hint of purple shadow on her eyes.

While Rihanna's outfits often turn heads, tonight it was her dance moves that got crowds talking.

The Wild Thoughts singer went all out while taking the stage with DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller to perform the aforementioned song.

The Love On The Brain singer gritted her teeth and shook her stuff with intensity as she sported a glittering fringed frock with daring thigh high slit that revealed a sexy pair of stockings beneath.

Her animated faces sparked several memes from audiences at home, with one fan writing: 'Me when my pizza arrives' while another captioned her fierce face simply 'Mood.'
