Grammys 2018 Miley Cyrus dons ruby red princess gown

Miley Cyrus caused a stir with her infamous 'twerking' performance at MTV's Video Music Awards in 2013.

But the Malibu songstress couldn't have looked more different from her scandalous performance while performing with the legendary Elton John at Sunday's Grammy Awards at Madison Square Garden in New York. 

There, the reformed wild child, 25, commanded attention in a ruby red Zac Posen gown that looked like it was designed for a princess during her performance with the music icon.

The Hannah Montana actress's garnet gown was a far cry from the skimpy latex bikini she wore on stage with Robin Thicke back in 2013.

Miley's designer frock hung off her shoulders elegantly while ruched tulle covered her arms and cascaded down into a full, floor-length skirt.

She styled her tresses in romantic waves with a deep side-part while keeping her make-up at a natural glow. 

The Nashville native crooned Tiny Dancer while Elton, who was being honored with the Recording Academy President's Merit Award with longtime writing partner Bernie Taupin, played piano.

The duo hugged each other and took a bow while receiving a standing ovation. 

Elton glimmered in a shimmering blue-flame adorned tailcoat custom designed by Gucci. 

The The Climb singer was all smiles as she headed backstage after the duet. 

She continued to show off her couture, spinning to display the design's fantastic skirt.

Miley teamed up with fashionisto Zac Posen, who was responsible for both of the starlet's looks that evening.

The designer looked dapper in grey velvet while Cyrus planted a kiss on his cheek.

The starlet also shared a brief moment with Alicia Keys, who wowed in all black.

She kissed Miley's hand tenderly as she made her way to the stage.

The We Can't Stop singer's grand transformation didn't go unnoticed online.

'Seems that rabies vaccine has really helped Miley Cyrus -- she looked like a normal person tonight at the #GRAMMYs,' wrote Youtube conspiracy theorist Mark Dice. 

Others were more critical about Miley's makeover, pointing out the ways she had problematically co-opted black culture in the past.

'Oh I forgot Miley Cyrus wants to be white again,' wrote journalist Ernest Owens, 'No more Mike-Will-Made-It "and them" anymore.

'Reminded everyday how interchangeable white artists can exploit the culture and then run back to safe spaces of privilege,' he continued.

Another tweeter paired a GIF of Cinderella transforming from maid to princess, captioning the animation: 'Miley Cyrus transforming back into white safety after her explicit trap era.'

Earlier in the evening, the Best Of Both Worlds singer looked sexy and chic in a black velvet pantsuit and fringed shawl by Jean Paul Gaultier. 

She paired the suit with blonde locks cascading down her back in romantic curls. 

Her long tresses appeared like a throwback to the long tresses she sported as rock-star Hannah Montana from her Disney Channel days. 

The Wrecking Ball singer's ensemble teamed a strapless bodice with slim cigarette pants, adding a unique touch with a textured shawl.

She teamed the stylish singlet with towering heels that featured a chunky silver heel and almost-invisible strap across her tows.

For beauty, the Adore singer embraced a natural glow paired with fluttering eyelashes.

Miley carried a long-stemmed white rose in honor of Time's Up while keeping the rest of her accessories to a minimum.

Ever the goofball, the starlet clutched the flower in her mouth, even biting a petal off, while posing for the cameras.

Inside the event Cyrus sat with her mom Tish. 

Also taking the stage was Bruno Mars, who will be joining forces with hip hop's fastest rising star Cardi B for their first ever performance of the remix of Finesse.

Coming off the heels of his announcement that his upcoming tour will be his last, legend Elton John will be joining forces with Miley Cyrus to perform his classic songs in a celebration of he and longtime writing partner Bernie Taupin receiving the Recording Academy President's Merit Award.

Lady Gaga will also be performing as she has two nominations on the evening.
