Prince William and Harry cameo with Tom Hardy in latest Star Wars

This is the first time Star Wars fans get to see Prince William and Harry transform into stormtroopers alongside Tom Hardy.

Star John Boyega previously revealed the princes appeared in a scene with him as he is reprimanded while sneaking on to a First Order ship alongside Benicio del Toro, who plays DJ, and Kelly Marie, who plays Rose.

Star Wars fans were left disappointed when the scene failed to make it into the film which was released in December last year.

But now the scene has been uncovered lurking among DVD extras.  

The scene shows Boyega, who plays Finn, disguised as a First Order captain standing in an elevator with Rose and DJ when a group of stormtroopers enter. 

It is believed Prince William and Harry are standing to the left of the frame, since those two troopers are unusually tall.

Actors playing stormtroopers are typically requested to be 5ft 11in so they are a uniform height, but Prince Harry stands at 6ft 1in and William at 6ft 2in. 

Boyega also confirmed last year that fellow British actor Tom Hardy appears in the same scene, and fans have pointed out that the stormtrooper who speaks sounds a lot like him.

Meanwhile sources told The Hollywood Reporter that behind another of the white masks in none other than Gary Barlow.

The former Take That singer stands at 5ft 7ins, meaning he could be the stormtrooper on the far right, who appears a little shorter than the others.

However, Gareth Edwards, who directed the Star Wars anthology spin-off Rogue One, told NME that Barlow appeared in a battle scene towards the end of the film.

The scene shows Finn, who used to be a stormtrooper, and his accomplices trying to sneak past the First Order unnoticed when a former colleague recognises him.  

Finn asks 'Is there a a problem soldier?', to which the other stormtrooper, believed to be Hardy, replies: 'FN-2187? You don't remember me? I remember you.'

Finn is desperate to keep his plan under wraps and begs the stormtrooper '926 please don't do this'.

But Hardy jokes 'Look at you captain! and gives him an unexpected slap on the bottom.

Meanwhile the Princes' characters stay silent in the background.  

Speaking in December 2017 a Star Wars insider told the Mail on Sunday: 'Stormtroopers have to be exactly 5ft 11in. At the time we shot it I think the feeling was that the scene would make the final movie.

'Everyone feels bad that William and Harry lost out on their big moment. However, the scene just didn't work for the final cut so it was left out.' 

Anthony Daniels, who plays C-3PO in the Star Wars films, told the newspaper the Princes were great company when they arrived at the studios.

Speaking at the Services To Film gala dinner in London last week, he said: 'I was very enchanted by them – they are absolutely charismatic.'

The Princes were first told they were not in the film at its premiere at the Royal Albert Hall in December, but a source said they were 'still gracious and fun all night'.
