Lady Gaga dubbed Princess Diana 'another dead blonde'



Lady Gaga was heard to make a slur about Princess Diana in her 2013 track Princess Die, on which she described the late royal as 'just another dead blonde'.

Resurgence of the 31-year-old singer's shock wording on the song comes just days after she hit headlines for communicating with Prince William via FaceTime to discuss the Heads Together campaign to raise awareness about mental health.

The shocking track, which courted controversy when unveiled at an Australian gig four years ago, also references The People's Princess' well-documented eating disorder and tragic 1997 death in a car crash while surrounded by paparazzi in Paris.



Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, was seen last week communicating with the eldest of Diana's sons as she chatted from her LA kitchen to talk about the #Oktosay film series.

The songstress praised William's brother Harry for his well-publicised confessions that he 'struggled to cope' and neared a breakdown after their mother's death, in a reveal which Gaga described as 'beautiful'.

Upon the controversy-laden reveal of Princess Die four years ago, Gaga lashed out at her critics by insisting her intentions were pure as she stated: 'The People’s Princess was mine and my mum’s hero when I was growing up.'

Despite her response, the lyrics remain shocking as atop her 'just another dead blonde' slur, she also hints that the Diana figure mentioned in the track was suicidal and 'took pills' after 'downing a peroxide shot'.

Diana's death left the world in shock after she was fatally injured in a car crash in August 1997 in the Pont de l'Alma road tunnel in Paris, in which her companion and rumoured boyfriend Dodi Fayed and the driver, Henri Paul, were also killed.

In her blatant references to the tragic incident, Gaga sings: 'Wish that I could go in my rich boyfriend’s limo. Right after he proposed with a 16-carat stone wrapped in rose gold.'

She goes on to discuss the clothing worn by Diana, seemingly referencing the trouser suit she was seen wearing in CCTV footage taken eight hours before her untimely death: 'With the paparazzi all swarming around, In my Louis Vuitton white buttoned down. So bob your head for another dead blonde, She just wants to sleep.'



The references will undoubtedly be hard for the Princes to hear after William used Harry's candid confession, made during a talk with The Telegraph's Bryony Gordon, to pledge to ensure his children will ‘grow up feeling able to talk about emotions’.

The prince said for too long it has been taboo or weak to talk about personal issues. And he warns that while the traditional stiff upper lip has its place, it should not be at the expense of mental wellbeing.

William’s candid interview came as his brother brought mental health to the top of the agenda with a deeply personal account of his battle to cope with Diana’s death.



Lady Gaga praised them for the 'beautiful stories' they told. Last year the Poker Face singer released an open letter through her Born This Way Foundation revealing that she lives with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

In 2013, it was revealed Lady Die had been dropped from Gaga's third studio LP 'ARTPOP' - after worried record company bosses at her label Streamline and parent firm Interscope urged her to axe the song fearing it may upset fans of the late Diana.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: 'Lady Gaga was passionate about Princess Diana and, though she admitted it wasn't her best work, she still wanted it on the album.

'But after the adverse reaction it got from fans in the UK when she sang it at her gigs last year, the record company bosses stepped in. They persuaded her to remove it from the album to keep the peace. There still is a lot of emotion.'

Atop her references in Princess Die, in 2009 hit Dance In The Dark, from the album Fame Monster she paid homage to her hero saying: 'You will never fall apart Diana, you're still in our hearts / Never let you fall apart / Together we'll dance in the dark'.
