Eddie Vedder pays tribute to late Chris Cornell



Eddie Vedder played his first show since the death of his friend Chris Cornell.

The 52-year-old paid tribute to his fellow singer, who committed suicide a fortnight ago.

According to Rolling Stone the Pearl Jam frontman didn't mention Cornell's name his name during the performance on Saturday night, but the crowd knew who he was talking about.



'I'm thinking of a lot of people tonight. And some in particular and their families,' he said.

'And I just know that healing takes time, if it ever happens, it takes time, and that means you have to start somewhere so let it be music. Let it be love and togetherness, and let it be Amsterdam.'



The mag noted that while singing opening song Long Road, he altered the lyric 'But still/Something’s missing' to 'Without you/Something is missing' to reflect on Cornell's death.

While he didn't perform any Soundgarden or Audioslave tracks, he did cover Neil Young's 'The Needle and the Damage Done' — a song about heroin addiction.

The Soundgarden rocker, 52, was found dead in his hotel bathroom in Detroit on May 18, after performing his final gig in the city.

Sources are told TMZ that he died with fresh and 'obvious' track marks on his arms - indicating that he may have injecting drugs.



He was cremated at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery; Vedder's Pearl Jam band mate Jeff Ament was among the artists who delivered eulogies.

In a bizarre twist, the death of Cornell seen Vedder become a trending topic on Twitter as fans rallied to protect one of the last big grunge names.

Vedder will perform two more shows at Amsterdam's AFAS Live on Monday and Tuesday, with special guest Glen Hansard.
