Musicians mourn the loss of Allman Brothers rocker Gregg Allman



Following the news of Gregg Allman's death Saturday at 69, musicians flocked to social media to share not only their condolences, but their memories of the long-haired singer who helped usher in a new era of southern rock.



Allman died at his home in Savannah, Georgia following several years of declining health, including a 2010 liver transplant. Still, as much as his songs influenced scores of musicians, a statement posted to his official website revealed that his fans and admirers influenced him right back.



Gregg struggled with many health issues over the past several years," the statement read. "During that time, Gregg considered being on the road playing music with his brothers and solo band for his beloved fans, essential medicine for his soul. Playing music lifted him up and kept him going during the toughest of times."



Cher, who was married to the singer briefly in 1975 and shares a son with him, took to Twitter with a heartbreaking post in honor of Allman.
