Princess Charlene stuns in scarlet at Monaco Grand Prix



It is the most glamorous event in the Formula 1 calendar which attracts world renowned sports stars and celebrities alike.

And this year did not disappoint with the state's Princess Charlene, 38, and husband Prince Albert II turning out to watch the Monaco Grand Prix.

The former Olympic swimmer, who married into Monaco's House of Grimaldi in 2011, dazzled today in a fitted scarlet dress as she presented the trophy to this year's winner Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel.



Wearing a sleeveless red checkered dress, the princess wore her short blonde hair parted to the side and kept her make-up understated apart from a bold lip.

She tactfully kissed runner-up Kimi Raikkonen, of Finland, who came second to his Ferrari teammate, before presenting the winner with the trophy.

Before the race begun, the princess and prince were photographed on the race track speaking to the staff behind the teams.

High heels didn't put the tall princess off from strutting around the tarmac and politely posing for pictures.

Princess Charlene met her future husband at a French swimming event in 2000. Originally from South Africa, she shot to fame in the late 1990s for success in the Olympics.



Over the years Charlene has become well-known for her elegant fashion style, after wearing an exclusive Armani dress to her wedding.

Today the royal duo looked the epitome of stylish, with Prince Albert II donning beige trousers and a smart blazer, shirt combination.  

The star-studded sporting event, set in their home state of Monaco, saw tennis star Serena Williams fly out to watch it alongside model Bella Hadid.

The two-day affair is popular with millionaires, celebrities and members of the royal family alike, who are known for mooring up their luxurious yacht's in the city's harbour.

Arsenal's shareholder Alisher Usmanov got in there early this year, parked his boat up  at the start of last week. At a whopping 156 metres long, it is the largest yacht in the world.

It is called Dilbar and is valued at £500million and has a crew of over 80 to run it.

Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng was also in attendance, after his side had wrapped up yet another Bundesliga title.

Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth and American World Cup alpine ski racer Lindsay Vonn also turned out to see the action unfold.

Sebastian Vettel beat his Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen to win the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday and comfortably extend his lead at the top of the standings to 25 points.

It was the four-time F1 champion's third win of the season and 45th of his career, as well as Ferrari's first in Monaco since Michael Schumacher - Vettel's childhood idol - in 2001.

'Unbelievable. It was a very tense race,' Vettel said. 'It's very, very special to win here. We're going to have a very fun night.'

Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo finished third, ahead of Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas.

It was a bad weekend for Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton - who is second behind Vettel in the standings - finishing seventh after starting from 13th because of a poor qualifying session.

'Missing out on a Monaco podium is painful,' Bottas said. 'It's been a really tough weekend for us and we've just been missing pace. Ferrari were very strong this weekend and for whatever reason, their car seems easier to operate.'
