Taylor Swift is liking fan theories on Tumblr /2017 Reputation



Taylor Swift is letting the fans figure out the messages in her new music video for themselves, and so far has not uttered a word in interviews or on social media.

She is, however, dispensing a few 'likes'. Since Look What You Made Me Do debuted on Sunday night, the 27-year-old has been busy on Tumblr, liking fan theories and reactions.

Though she won't explicitly say so, it seems that the star is confirming some of those fan theories — and the fact that nothing in the new video is a coincidence.



Taylor has been incredibly active on Tumblr since the debut, a change since she wiped her page clean last week.

Many of the posts she's liking are just expressions of excitement over the song and video, as well as compliments and rave reviews — but she also appears to be giving the thumbs up to some theories that her fans have concocted about messages woven into the song and video, after dissecting it frame by frame.

She's like a lot of posts from fans pointing out that the whole video is about Taylor making fun of herself, cracking her own jokes about criticisms that have been made about her.

Posts that she liked said she 'took back ALL OF THE NARRATIVES!' and went after herself, owning the criticism.

One user, 'anotherdramadrama', said that Taylor went after her own infamous 'surprised face' and the idea that she plays the victim and 'can't be that nice'



Then, though, there are the more specific theories. User 'photobombgirl' was liked for post that read: 'Taylor Swift = Queen of Details and Hidden Messages.'

Taylor liked a fan theory about the gravestone for Nils Sjoberg, her writing pseudonym, in the beginning of the video — which speculated that she 'killed' him because she plans to take credit for everything from now on.

Taylor used the Swedish-sounding name when she co-wrote the smash-hit This Is What You Came For with her then-boyfriend, DJ Calvin Harris.

Her involvement in the song was leaked just after they broke up in a move that many saw as trying to discredit his work on the hit. Harris furiously tweeted: 'Hurtful to me at this point that her (Taylor) and her team would go so far out of their way to try to make ME look bad.'

In the same zombie graveyard scene, Taylor buries an old version of herself: 2014 Met Gala Taylor, in her pink Oscar de la Renta dress. Quite a few fans speculated that Taylor did this to show that that her 1989-era self was dead, and Taylor appeared to approve of this idea. 



The next scene in the video features Taylor sitting on a gold throne while snakes slither around her. Many have interpreted this scene to be a dig at Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, referencing the fallout over Kanye's track Famous — in which he calls Taylor a 'b****'.

When Taylor publicly objected to a 'misogynistic message', Kim released excerpts of a recorded phone conversation suggesting that Taylor had approved the track. Kim said it was 'national snake day', and accused Swift of being untrustworthy.

Here, Taylor shows she embraces being queen of the snakes — and doesn’t care if people think she's a slimy character. She also wears a dress by Kim's favorite designer, Balmain.

But Taylor liked another theory about this scene, put forward by user 'chest-of-wishes'.

That user said that counted the snakes in the next scene of the video, and there are 12 — but Taylor's lucky number is 13, meaning there should be a thirteenth snake somewhere.

'Y'all it’s her!!!!!!! Like omg,' she wrote. 



She liked another post about the car crash scene, which speculated that the singer was criticizing people for making a spectacle out of her when she is suffering.

'Taylor was in an expensive vehicle that got in a head-on crash, but everyone just stood back and took pictures, instead of rushing over to help. is this a reference to all the times that everyone stood back, took pictures, and laughed at her when she was beaten down? yes,' one wrote.

Many have also put forward that the scene is meant to be a dig at Katy Perry, noting Taylor's resemblance to the singer — though Taylor herself hasn't liked any Tumblr posts referencing this idea.



Taylor also seemed to confirm other widely-held theories about her robbery scene. In the video, Taylor stages a robbery, setting fire to piles of money of a vault with a sign that say 'Streaming Company' — a clear reference to iTunes and Spotify.

The star had previously complained they were hitting her earnings by letting people listen to music for free — hence the image of her burning money.

On Tumblr, too, she liked posts from fans who shared theories about the video's 'squad' scenes, saying Taylor was sticking it to everyone who had nasty things to say about her model friends 



Finally, fans picked apart the end of the video. User 'outoftheswoods' said she thought that the version of Taylor standing on the plane is meant to represent 'the actual Taylor' — something Taylor herself seemed to agree with.
