Tony Bennett supports friend Lady Gaga at her New York gig

Tony Bennett supports friend Lady Gaga at her New York gig

The unlikely pair became friends three years ago, after bonding over their love for jazz music.

But Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga proved their friendship was as strong as ever on Tuesday, as he supported the pop star at her Joanne World Tour performance in NYC.

The famous crooner, 91, was seen drawing the glamorous 31-year-old in for a tender hug backstage - before gushing about her show-stopping set on Instagram.

Attending her show at Citi Field in the Big Apple, Tony looked incredibly excited to be reunited with his friend and fellow musician backstage.

Dressing up for the occasion in a blue blazer and green printed tie, the big band performance could not contain his joy as he posed with Gaga, with a thumb held up to the cameras.

Meanwhile the singer, showing off her slender frame in a glittery crop top and fringed denim shorts, simply gazed at Tony in admiration as they caught up after her show.

First chatting animatedly about the show, the jazz singer was then seen drawing the singer in for a warm, congratulatory hug after another of her energetic sets.

Clearly proud of the Judas singer, Tony later shared one of the photos to Instagram, with the affectionate caption: 'Loved every minute of 'Lady's' show at CitiField in my hometown of Queens last night - you just get better and better!'

Tony has been friends with the singer for years, after the pair bonded over their love for jazz music - and released a joint album in September 2013.

Speaking to Parade magazine about her relationship with the famous crooner, Gaga gushed: 'I tell Tony every day that he saved my life.

'I'm not going to say any names, but people get irrational when it comes to money – with how they treat you, with what they expect from you.

'But if you help an artist, it doesn't give you the right, once the artist is big, to take advantage of them...I was so sad. I couldn’t sleep. I felt dead. And then I spent a lot of time with Tony. He wanted nothing but my friendship and my voice.'

Gaga is currently travelling the globe with her Joanne tour, which sees her perform her newest selection of tracks in Europe, South America and the States.

Showing no signs of slowing down however, Gaga also recently announced she had started work on her sixth studio album.

The Born This Way hitmaker recently revealed she had 'started writing' while on the road, but is yet to decide whether she will release another single from her latest album.

With fans pleading for her to release Dancin' In Circles online, the singer told Entertainment Weekly: 'I'll let ya know.

'I have a lot of ideas and a lot of things I want to create, so you'll see in a bit. I need some time to create.'

While she is known for playing unreleased or acoustic songs during her performances, Gaga went on reveal she is unable to freestyle on her Joanne Tour, due to the 'complex' technical side of things.

She explained:  'This show's actually extremely complex and complicated, and the stage is coded with a computer.

'It's intense and the cues all have to be met at a particular time. It's high stress and tense backstage to make sure everything happens at the exact moment it's supposed to.

'So, the setlist might change a little bit, but mostly you're coming to see a piece that we've created for you.'

Princess Diana's driver could not have been drunk on the night she was killed in a traffic accident in Paris, her former butler has declared.

Paul Burrell rubbished claims that chauffeur Henri Paul was driving over the limit, insisting Diana's bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones would not have allowed him to get behind the wheel.

According to toxicology reports, Mr Paul was three times over the French drink-driving limit when the car smashed into a pillar of the Pont de l'Alma tunnel.

He was killed instantly in the crash, as was Diana's lover Dodi Fayed, while the Princess of Wales died hours later in hospital. Mr Ree-Jones was the only survivor.
