Hairdresser reveals eight step guide to Meghan Markle's 'messy bun'

A hairdresser has revealed how to recreate Meghan's 'messy bun' in just 15 minutes.

Hair stylist James Johnson, who is based in Kent, has given his eight-step guide on how to get the new Duchess of Sussex's bridal hair.

He explained how you should start by curling your hair, before separating a section of hair from the ears back and tying it into a low pony tail.

Once secure, you should 'flip and twist the pony tail in itself', before loosely pulling back the side sections - securing it on top of the lower pony tail with another elastic.

James explained how you should push this pony tail into the lower pony tail - while remembering to leave the fringe around the face, as 'this is essential in creating a softer look'.

You should then secure the whole pony tail with an elastic at the bottom, 'rolling it up upon itself before pinning.'

He explained: 'Remember, the looser you do this and quicker, the better the outcome.'

You should then use a strong setting spray to keep the bun in place, 'pinching and pulling the hair style for texture'.

James added: 'Don’t be scared to pull pieces out and create loose "fly aways", the more un-done... the better!'

It comes after royal fans defended Meghan's Meghan's 'gorgeous' wedding hair after her messy bun was criticised for coming 'undone' during the ceremony.

Social media users had slammed the bride's 'unruly' hair, commenting on the 'stray strands' that came loose.

However, others jumped to Meghan's defence, saying her simple hairstyle looked 'stunning'.

One wrote 'I love how Meghan's hair is a little messy', while another added: 'Meghan was stunning with that swept back whispy hair'.

Meanwhile, one Twitter user added: 'I thought her dress hair makeup - everything was GORGEOUS'.

The Duchess of Sussex's hairdresser Serge Normant, who is based in New York, revealed yesterday it took him just 45 minutes to style her hair on Saturday – using grips you can pick up in the supermarket for only a few pounds.

Describing how long it took him to style Meghan's hair, the French-born hair stylist, 52, explained: 'You know not that long, believe it or not.

'We had to blow dry it from wet, I would say 45 minutes to an hour. Then they did the make-up and then you fiddle around with it a little bit. But it's not that long.

'I always tend to try and go as fast as I can at these events. Nobody wants to sit around.'

The hairdresser described the look as a 'messy bun', a style that Meghan has frequently sported in the past.

'It's a messy bun, we call it. Messy in a controlled way,' he said. 'Making sure it doesn't become a whole mess after a few hours! I don't overload the hair with products in general and certainly not on this day.'
