Kensington Palace updates its Twitter profile photo to include Meghan Markle

She was an actress for 15 years before she tied the knot with Prince Harry on Saturday.

However, details of Meghan Markle's career have been down-played on the Duchess of Sussex's new page on the royal family's official website.

The profile for the 36-year-old on www.royal.uk, which is run by Buckingham Palace, was updated after the royal wedding on Saturday at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

However, the info for Meghan, who appeared in Suits, the hit show show that made her famous, as well as 14 films, focuses on her philanthropic, volunteer and charity work.

It's not until readers click on to a secondary 'Biography' page and scroll further down do they find references of Meghan's 'superficial' acting career, which she gave up so she could take up full royal commitments in Britain after marrying Prince Harry.

Her 'About The Duchess of Sussex' page reads: 'From a young age, The Duchess had a keen awareness of social issues and actively participated in charitable work.
'Aged 11 she successfully campaigned for a company to alter their television advert that had used sexist language to sell washing-up liquid.

'Her Royal Highness also volunteered at a soup kitchen in Skid Row, Los Angeles from the age of 13-17.

'She continued to volunteer at the soup kitchen when she would return home to Los Angeles until the age of 22.'

It also highlights her work as the UN Women's Advocate for Women's Political Participation and Leadership, as well as her role with World Vision.

The only mention of her acting career on the first page of her official page is a reference to her 'filming in Toronto'.

Once on her Biography page, readers have to scroll down past Meghan's education before reaching details of her acting career - summed up in just a few paragraphs.

It reads: 'After university Her Royal Highness worked as an actress, appearing in film and television. She most notably played the role of Rachel Zane on the series Suits for seven seasons, completing over 100 episodes.

'Whilst working on Suits, The Duchess moved to Toronto, Canada where the show was filmed; she feels very connected to Canada, as it became a second home to her.'

William Hanson, royal expert, said: 'The Duchess of Sussex’s role is now the endless and tireless charity work and patronages.

'It is not that remarkable that the royal household have chosen to focus on this rather than the rather superficial and ephemeral former career that Meghan had.

'The household are by no means trying to make us forget that - they know we have more nouse than that - but they are simply focusing on one of the major functions of a modern monarchy.'

It comes as  Kensington Palace updated its Twitter profile picture to include Meghan Markle.

The image now shows the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge along with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at their first joint engagement together in February - after which they were called the 'Fab Four'.

It was changed from a photo of Prince William, Kate and Harry at an event for their Heads Together mental health charity in 2016.

The bio now reads: 'The official account of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their Royal Foundation, based at Kensington Palace.'

The account has more than 1.46 million followers. The royal family's Instagram profile image has also been updated.

Before it was changed, royal fan Arieh Miller tweeted: 'At the #royalwedding party, surely the most important conversation is about the new @KensingtonRoyal twitter picture? #AddMegan.'

While another added: 'I'm waiting for @KensingtonRoyal to change their Twitter and insta bio - will there be a new photo too?'

Fans were pleased after the profile photo was updated, with Rosemary adding: 'Great to see @KensingtonRoyal has promptly edited its Twitter bio for the new couple.'

Meghan and Harry tied the knot at St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle in front of a star-studded guestlist yesterday.

More than six million people tweeted about the big day - more than three times the number during William and Kate's wedding, social media monitoring firm Visibrain said.

Between 10pm on Friday and 11pm on Saturday, 6,604,498 tweets were posted worldwide on the royal nuptials, of which 5.2 million bore the hashtag #RoyalWedding.

That compared with 1,821,669 tweets across a similar timeframe for Prince William when he married Kate Middleton back on April 29, 2011.

The most picked up post was by Lucy Sempey and was retweeted nearly 105,000 times. It was a photograph of Meghan outside Buckingham Palace as a teen with the message: 'One day you're 15 and posing outside Buckingham palace and 22 years later you're marrying the Prince. Unreal.'
