Robin Kermode decodes Harry and Meghan's body language

Robin Kermode decodes Harry and Meghan's body language

Prince Harry performed a comforting gesture as he sat in St. George's Chapel with his 'supremely calm' new bride, a body language expert has revealed.

Communications expert Robin Kermode says the 'nervous' groom stroking Meghan's hand with his thumb was reminiscent of 'a gesture that parents often share with children' - and helped the couple to feel connected despite the formality of the occasion.

Robin also praised the new Duchess of Sussex for looking 'supremely calm' throughout the hour-long service as she said her vows in front of the Queen and a host of famous faces - noting that not once did she check her dress was sitting right.

Speaking exclusively to MailOnline FEMAIL, Robin gives his fascinating verdict on the smitten newlyweds' body language - from saying 'I do' to their first kiss as man and wife.

The nervous groom could be seen rubbing Meghan's right hand with his thumb as they were seated during the service at St. George's Chapel this afternoon - a sign of anxiousness, according to Robin.

'The thumb rub is an interesting gesture that parents often share with children,' Robin notes. 'Harry is using it to say 'I'm a little nervous and I'm glad you're here with me'.

'It's a comforting gesture from Harry to Meghan but also it gives Harry comfort to know that he is sharing this honest feeling with her. Ultimately it makes both parties feel connected.'

2. 'Calm and composed' Meghan

Meghan was astonishingly graceful throughout the entire service and possession,' says Robin. 'Her body was still, centered and composed at all times.

'Her chin was low and her eyes alert and completely relaxed. Nothing about this occasion seem to phase her at all.

'Meghan didn't touch her face once. Nor did she check that her dress was sitting right. She was supremely calm. It was great to see the way they held hands during the service.'

3. Harry's face touching betrayed his nerves

Harry seemed more affected by the occasion,' says Robin. 'For much of the service he moved his body very slightly forwards and backwards moving the weight from the front of his foot to the heel. He touched his face regularly.

'This was possibly accentuated by the heat and wearing a warm outfit. Several times he touched his jacket as a displacement for his understandable nerves.

'Traditionally the royal family, and indeed the aristocracy, never touch their faces in public. The fact that Harry touched his face as often as he did in the early part of the service shows what a huge occasion this was for him and what it meant to him on a deeply emotional level.'

4. Smitten couple couldn't keep their eyes off each other

Here we see Harry's right hand completely intertwined with hers,' Robin notes. 'Once again Meghan's posture here is extraordinary full stop; the ability to be this serene under this amount of pressure was truly remarkable. Harry seems like a man generally and completely in love.

'The eye contact between them the entire time was wonderful to see. Completely genuine with long held cases. Once again they managed to be seemingly in a private moment in a very public space. This is literally the stuff of fairy tales.'

5. Harry makes the first move: The kiss the whole world was waiting for

The newlyweds stopped for a romantic kiss on the steps of the church in front of a cheering crowd, before going on a drive through Windsor to their afternoon reception.

Robin says: 'On the kiss Harry is leaning in slightly towards Meghan. She remains physically centred and still while Harry moves towards her. It is a gesture of genuine love from him to her.

'This was, of course, the moment the world was waiting for. A kiss of genuine love. It was unrushed and savoured. Wonderful to see.'

What does Meghan's body language tell us?

Meghan 'was the strength' of her wedding ceremony to Prince Harry, as her body language showed she was constantly reassuring him, an expert has said.

Despite the experience being completely new for Meghan, who today becomes the Duchess of Sussex, she did not display a single sign of anxiety or nervousness - while her new husband, the Duke of Sussex, 'was so patently nervous'.

Judi James, a body language expert, said Harry performed about 12 self-touching body checks, like pulling at his gloves and wringing his hands, within a few paces of getting out his car after arriving at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

However Meghan, the latest member of the royal family, maintained complete calm throughout the ceremony to 'help Harry through it'.
