Princess Beatrice and Eugenie hit right style notes at royal wedding

Princess Beatrice and Eugenie hit right style notes at royal wedding

Royal watchers had been on tenterhooks waiting to see what the York sisters would wear to the wedding this morning.

But the Princesses surprised onlookers as they arrived at Windsor Castle in classy blue ensembles.

Beatrice, 29 and Eugenie, 28, opted for matching shades of blue as they arrived at St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle this morning.

The eldest York sister went for Roksanda with a Stephen Jones hat, while Eugenie opted for a Jackie O-style bouclé number from Gainsbourg.

Eugenie, who will tie the knot with Jack Brooksbank at St. George's Chapel in October, wore a hat designed by Fiona Graham and shoes by Valentino.

Their sartorial hoices led one disappointed Twitter user to protest: 'Don't they care about the memes?'

Earlier this week, fans took to Twitter in eager anticipation of the sisters' outfits on the big day, after the pair almost broke the internet with their elaborate creations at William and Kate's wedding in 2011.

The towering pink headpiece that Beatrice wore to match her Valentino couture ensemble was a huge bow that sat on the top of her head and sparked countless memes, likening it to a pretzel, toilet seats and a Turkey Twizzler.

Meanwhile her younger sister's blue hat added inches to her height with a huge purple flower adornment festooned with a dramatic spray of feathers.

And royal watchers had been hoping they would top their previous efforts today, with one saying: 'Blow Mehgan's dress. I want to see Beatrice and Eugenie's hats.

Another commented that things will have gone very wrong if the pair turn up in boring millinery as opposed to their usual elaborate creations.

And several said they had no interest in the ceremony, but would be tuning in purely to see what the York sisters were wearing.

Both sisters certainly share a love of statement headgear, with Beatrice especially fond of an eye-catching accessory.

For instance, the royal turned heads at Peter Phillips' wedding to Autumn Kelly in 2008 when she turned up with a flight of colourful butterflies adoring her head.

Hatmaker Philip Treacy spoke out in Beatrice's defence after William and Kate's wedding, saying critisicm of his piece was unnecessarily cruel.

'She is only 22 and there was a little bit of bullying going on,' he told The Observer.

'I didn't give a f*** about 140,000 bloggers. In the future, we'll look back and think she looked wild.'

And Beatrice had the last laugh by capitalising on the attention her hat attracted to raise money for a good cause.

She put the hat up for auction on eBay where it eventually sold for £81,100.01. with the proceeds going to the Little Bee Initiative, a charity set up by the Princess to raise money for Children in Crisis and Unicef.
Hats aside, the other biggest fashion talking point ahead of the big day is - of course - the bride's gown.

Speculation over the designer chosen to create Meghan's wedding dress has been mounting steadily since her engagement to Prince Harry was confirmed back in November.

The British-based label Ralph & Russo became the front runner when Meghan chose a dazzling - and eye-wateringly expensive - couture piece by the designers for the couple's official engagement photo shoot at their wedding reception venue, Frogmore House.

Other major names put forward included Burberry and Erdem, but earlier this month the Daily Mail reported that Ralph and Russo did indeed win the commission - and have created a £180,000 confection said to be being paid for privately by Prince Harry.
