Meghan Markle's brother Tom Jr's mom praises royal bride

Roslyn Markle, the mother of Meghan's older half-brother and sister, has revealed she got up at 3am to watch the Royal Wedding at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, Roslyn, 72, described the ceremony as 'absolutely beautiful' and heaped praise on the newly minted Duchess of Sussex.

'Meghan looked wonderful and I thought her dress was classically beautiful,' she said. 'Doria looked proud and lovely.'

She added: 'England is so beautiful and green. The castle grounds are pretty and the people seem lovely.'

Roslyn said her favorite part of the ceremony was when a clearly ecstatic Harry was joined by Meghan at the altar and added that she thought Prince Charles looked 'handsome' and proud to be escorting the Suits actress on the final steps up the aisle.

Roslyn said she now hopes the couple will go on to have a long and happy marriage, telling DailyMail.com: 'I wish them all the best. I hope they go on to have a long and happy union.'

Roslyn is the first wife of Meghan's father Thomas Markle Sr, 73, who she divorced in 1976 after he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in Hollywood.

On Saturday she told DailyMail.com that her former husband would have been 'a bit tearful' as he watched the wedding and offered her condolences after ill health left him unable to attend.

She said: 'I'm sorry that her father missed out on this joyous occasion. I know he was watching and was a bit tearful – but he was very proud.'

Markle Sr has already given his verdict on the ceremony via his favored outlet, gossip website TMZ, and described the ceremony as 'emotional and joyful'.

The 73-year-old, who is understood to have watched it from his hospital bed, added: 'My baby looks beautiful and she looks very happy. I wish I were there and I wish them all my love and all happiness.'

The retired lighting director had been due to walk Meghan down the aisle but pulled out on Tuesday after allegedly suffering a heart attack.

On Wednesday, he was admitted to hospital where he had three stents inserted. The following day, he told TMZ that he was 'honored and grateful' after Prince Charles offered to step in and give Meghan away in his place.

Meghan, who is understood to have been keeping in touch with her father via text message, released a statement on Thursday asking for him to be given 'space' to recover.

She said: 'Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding. I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health.

'I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support. Please know how much Harry and I look forward to sharing our special day with you on Saturday.'

Neither of Markle Sr's other two children, both the product of his marriage to Roslyn, were invited to the wedding following weeks of sniping in the press.

Markle Sr has also blamed Samantha Grant, 53, and Thomas Jr, 51, for his current plight – telling TMZ that their antics have made him ill.

Samantha is watched the ceremony from her home in Ocala, Florida, in the presence of a television crew working for an outlet which paid her a five-figure sum, while Thomas Jr was in Windsor – the paid guest of a tabloid newspaper.

Roslyn told DailyMail.com that she thinks their behavior has been an 'embarrassment' and accused her daughter of behaving in an undignified way during the run-up to the nuptials.

She also revealed she had 'chewed out Tom Jr' over his antics.

It may have worked; Markle Jr. has backtracked on his astonishing attacks of his half-sister to say that he feels like an 'a**' and 'couldn't be more proud' of her on wedding day.

In an unscrupulous reversal of his earlier public comments, Markle Jr., told The Mirror on Friday that he now 'doesn't blame' Meghan for distancing herself from him when she found fame on Suits.

'I feel like an a** about it but my true feelings are I couldn't be happier for her. I mean, what are the odds?

'This is every woman's dream come true, to marry a prince. So I couldn't be more happy and proud of my sister. She's incredible,' he said.

He spoke in the UK after jetting in before the big day but would not say what his plans for Saturday were. He was not invited to the ceremony or reception.
