Meghan Markle shows off the Queen's favorite shade of nail polish on her wedding day

It wasn't just the sparkling tiara atop her head that Meghan Markle borrowed from the Queen for her wedding day look.

The blushing bride's understated make-up look has already been praised online for showing off her natural beauty, but not everyone noticed that this minimal beauty look also extended to the new Duchess' manicure.

Passing on the French tips or acrylic extensions many brides might opt for, Meghan has appeared to instead show off just a touch of delicate pink on her neatly trimmed nails.

But, most notably, the shade appears to be polish brand Essie's color Ballet Slippers, which has been reported to be the only color that Queen Elizabeth is said to wear.

According to the brand's website, it was back in 1989 that the Queen's hairdresser reached out to the company's founder Essie Weingarten, asking for bottles of the color.

Despite that incredible endorsement, the polish is an affordable drug store brand, with bottles of the color on sale on Amazon for just $7.69.

It has also previously been reported that the royals view colored or fake nails as 'vulgar', which is why the women of the family often opt for muted pinky beige shades.

Essie has had quite the luck with royal weddings, as Kate Middleton also opted for a subtle shade from the brand for her own nuptials in 2011, decking her nails in the pink-nude shade Allure.

In line with the modest make-up and nail look, Meghan received some backlash online after her messy bun was criticized for coming 'undone' during the ceremony.

Social media users had slammed the bride's 'unruly' hair, commenting on the 'stray strands' that came loose.

However, others have jumped to Meghan's defense, saying her simple hairstyle looked 'stunning'.

It comes as the new Duchess of Sussex's hairdresser Serge Normant, who is based in New York, revealed today it took him just 45 minutes to style her hair yesterday – using grips you can pick up in the supermarket for only a few dollars.

Describing how long it took him to style Meghan's hair, tge French-born hair stylist, 52, explained: 'You know not that long, believe it or not.

'We had to blow dry it from wet, I would say 45 minutes to an hour. Then they did the make-up and then you fiddle around with it a little bit. But it's not that long.

'I always tend to try and go as fast as I can at these events. Nobody wants to sit around.'

The hairdresser described the look as a 'messy bun', a style that Meghan has frequently sported in the past.

'It's a messy bun, we call it. Messy in a controlled way,' he said. 'Making sure it doesn't become a whole mess after a few hours! I don't overload the hair with products in general and certainly not on this day.'

However, not everyone was impressed with Meghan's hair at her wedding ceremony, with some describing it as 'unruly'.

One Twitter user wrote: 'Who did Meghan’s hair?? Those strands are annoying her. YOU HAD ONE JOB.'

Another added: 'Meghan Markle’s hair is coming undone and I want to jump into the tv screen and fix it. I can’t focus on anything else'

However, others jumped to the defence of the bride, saying they loved the simplicity of her up-do.

One wrote 'I love how Meghan's hair is a little messy', while another added: 'Meghan was stunning with that swept back whispy hair'.

Meanwhile, one Twitter user added: 'I thought her dress hair makeup - everything was GORGEOUS'.

Serge described Meghan as being a joy to work with and said she and Prince Harry are 'a beautiful couple.'

The celebrity hairdresser was introduced to Meghan last year by mutual friends and said it had always been a dream of his to style her hair.

He said being at Windsor was a 'gorgeous, fairytale', adding 'One of those moments, right?'

Serge also described Meghan as being 'calm and chatty' on the morning of her big day, explaining how she was 'very excited'.

Speaking at Kensington Palace shortly after arriving back from Windsor, he admitted: 'I am still pinching myself this morning. It's just one of those moments you dream of. I am very excited about it.'

Serge said that Meghan appeared relaxed as he styled her glossy locks on the morning of her wedding.

'On the day she was calm and chatty. She was very happy, it was a beautiful morning, the perfect morning to get married,' she said.

'We woke up early, had a little coffee and then just went on. It was all smiles, it was just one of those dreamy moments to be honest.'

Asked if there were any signs of nerves, he added: 'No I don't think so, she was just very happy, very happy, very excited.
