Denzel Washington received two Oscar nominations - for Best Motion Picture and Best Actor - for his powerful drama Fences.

But the 62-year-old star's actress wife of 33 years, Pauletta, made her own showstopping appearance at the 89th Annual Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Pauletta, 66, dazzled in a red sequinned off-the-shoulder gown with long flowing train.



Her stylish designer number included intricately detailed beading throughout and a satin neckline.

She wore her silky raven tresses in a chic updo and rounded out her stunning look with large drop diamond earrings and rhinestone encrusted clutch.



A smokey matte eye with thin black liner, rosy blush and bold red lip matched the tone of her eye-catching ensemble.

Denzel posed alongside his wife as he attended the star-studded event where he is up for his film Fences, for which he directed and starred.



He co-stars alongside Viola Davis, who received a nod for Best Supporting Actress in the film which is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama by August Wilson, who wrote the play in 1983.

It premiered on Broadway in 1987 and closed just over a year later in 1988. It's had a few revivals through the years, both on Broadway in New York and the west end in London.

Most notably, the play returned to Broadway in 2010, with Denzel and Viola playing the lead roles. Both actors won Tony awards for their performances.

The film is set in the lower-middle-class African American area of Pittsburgh in the mid-1950s.



It centers on Troy (Denzel), a 53-year-old man who struggles to provide for his family. Troy was a great baseball player when he was younger, but spent time in prison for an accidental murder he committed during a robbery.

To provide for his family, he works as a trash collector and maintains a good relationship with his wife, Rose (Viola).

Matt Damon and wife Luciana Barroso also were certainly contenders for most beautiful couple at the biggest night in Hollywood.

The A-lister, 46, who is a producer of Best Picture nominee Manchester By The Sea, was perfect in a three-piece navy tuxedo with white dress shirt and black bow tie.
