Beyond the intoxicating sparkle and glitz of the red carpet, the Academy Awards is about one simple thing - taking home a coveted Oscar.

And it seems that fact proved an inspiration for the women of Hollywood, at least when it came to picking out their gowns for Sunday's ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

From Jessica Biel's glimmering Kaufman Franco creation to Dakota Johnson's golden Gucci creation, the iconic statuette's influence was obvious.





Indeed even Emma Stone - Best Actress nominee for hotly tipped musical La La Land - chose the metallic shade for her fringed flapper-style gown.



Drawing the biggest and loudest cheers on the red carpet, she told DailyMail.com she felt like 'a princess for a night.'

Also in gold was Chrissy Teigen, whose Zuhair Murad gown featured intricate beading and a floor-length cape.

Befitting her career as a model, the Sports Illustrated cover girl looked stunning in the gown, which featured a thigh-high split.

Posing with her singer husband John Legend - who makes his acting debut in the 14-times-nominated La La Land - it was clear Chrissy was enjoying her glamorous date night.



The pair nuzzled one another, holding hands, and laughing happily.

But despite their relaxed appearance, Chrissy confided in Ryan Seacrest that her man was experiencing a few nerves ahead of his medley piano performance.

'Tell Ryan the truth,' she laughed, as John pretended all was fine.

Jessica was also enjoying a date night, with husband Justin Timberlake



It might have been a drizzly, grey afternoon, but it was a red hot scene in Hollywood as the stars flooded the Oscars red carpet.

Amongst the first to arrive was Best Actress nominee Ruth Negga - looking stunning in bright red custom Valentino.

The high-necked, long-sleeved gown might have been conservative, but it was nonetheless glamorous with a long trailing train.



Stopping to chat to E's red carpet host Giuliana Rancic, the Ethiopian-Irish star said of her movie Loving: 'I think there are films that you watch, that you've been in, that stay with you.

'It's gonna stay with me, I feel it.'

On her lapel, she wore a blue ribbon in honour of the American Civil Liberties Union, commonly known as the ACLU.

Also wearing red, was the stunning TV personality Kristin Cavallari and Once Upon A Time star Ginnifer Goodwin, who arrived with her husband Josh Dallas.
