Oscars 2017 Karlie Kloss protests Trump's travel ban

Every celebrity aims to make a statement with their designer dress on the star-studded red carpet of the Academy Awards.

But some were also making a political statement yesterday, as they wore Planned Parenthood pins and American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) ribbons in opposition to Donald Trump's policies.





Emma Stone and Dakota Johnson also wore golden Planned Parenthood pins, representing a charity that has campaigned against Trump's anti-abortion stance.

Stone, who won the Best Actress Academy Award for La La Land, wore a golden dress with a subtle golden pin while Johnson, who presented an award, had the logo on her gold purse.



Supermodel Karlie Kloss, who is dating the brother of Trump advisor Jared Kushner, was among the several stars to wear blue ribbons in support of the ACLU.

Best actress nominee Ruth Negga wore her the blue ribbon pinned to her red Valentino dress as she walked the red carpet outside the Dolby Theatre on Sunday.

Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda and his mother both wore the ribbons, as well as Moonlight director Barry Jenkins.

The blue accessories are in support of the organization's 'Stand With ACLU' campaign, which launched earlier this week.

ACLU called on Oscar nominees and celebrities to stand behind the organization amid Trump's controversial immigration ban.

Oscar nominee Casey Affleck also wore the ribbon at the Independent Spirit Awards on Saturday night.

Stylist Karla Welch took to Instagram on Sunday to share a photo of Negga's blue ribbon. She captioned the post: 'The accessory I'm most proud of #ACLU #MegaNegga.'

Welch also works with Karlie Kloss, who also made her support clear by wearing the blue ribbon. The supermodel's boyfriend Josh Kushner is the brother-in-law of President Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump.



Kloss has so far stayed quiet on her boyfriend's links to the Trump family. Josh, who voted for Hillary Clinton, was spotted attending the Women's March on Washington last month after his brother was appointed to serve on Trump's administration.

The supermodel was pictured sitting near Ivanka Trump at the U.S. Open in September prior to the presidential election.

Stars sporting the blue ribbons has become just one element of what is predicted to be a politically charged Oscars ceremony.

Celebrities have been using the spotlight of late to denounce Trump's hardline stances on immigration, transgender rights and the media.



Earlier, an anti-Oscars protest in Los Angeles turned violent as Trump supporters called for a boycott of the Academy Awards in revolt against the 'arrogant hypocrites' in Hollywood.

Two young women physically clashed with a Trump supporter in Hollywood on Sunday near the Dolby Theatre where the Oscars were getting underway.

Footage of the ordeal showed one girl breaking a sign in half that belonged to a woman wearing a 'Make America Great Again' hat.

Fists then flew between the woman in the hat and two Trump-hating opponents. The girl who broke the sign was then seen being arrested.

It came as Trump supporters called for people to boycott the Oscars by refusing to watch the glitzy awards show on television.
