She stunned in an Armani Prive gown at this year's Academy Awards, held in Los Angeles.

But it wasn't Nicole Kidman's dress that was the focus of attention on Sunday night.

Social media went into meltdown when cameras caught the 49-year-old actress clapping in a somewhat unusual manner.

 Viewers took to Twitter to comment on Nicole's clapping style with one user asking: 'Why does Nicole Kidman clap her hands like that? Weird. Clap like a normal person.



Others asked why the blonde beauty simply 'could not clap'.

While some went as far as to say she clapped like a seal: 'Anyone see Nicole Kidman clapping? She claps like a seal. Awesome,' tweeted another social media user.

Nicole was seen enthusiastically applauding after Charlize Theron took to the stage to introduce an award.



Meanwhile, Nicole revealed she suffered a wardrobe malfunction ahead of the show when the strap of broke on the way to the awards.

'I had a bit of a panic because my strap on my dress broke when I got in the car,' the actress told Today's Richard Wilkins.

The Lion actress exuded ethereal beauty as she posed in the custom-made designer frock, which featured intricate patterns made of sparkly jewels.

Her figure looked flawless in the gown, which featured a plunging back and jewel-encrusted straps that crossed at the shoulders.



The mother-of-four was dripping in diamonds on her special night, sporting bracelets on both wrists as well as drop earrings.

Joined by her husband Keith Urban for Hollywood's night of nights, the Australian beauty oozed glamour with her vibrant makeup look.

She wore a bright shade of red lipstick while keeping her porcelain complexion looking flawless with foundation and a hint of pink blush.



Her strawberry blonde locks were swept to one side and tied up in a woven bun for the special event.

Lashings of mascara completed the stunner's look for the star-studded event.

She added height to the ensemble with a pair of nude strappy heels to match her dress.



Keith meanwhile, cut a dapper figure as he walked the red carpet with his wife hand-in-hand.

The 49-year-old country music singer wore a black tux with patent shoes, adding a bow tie to the classic ensemble.

It appears the spark between the husband and wife is still strong, with Keith unable to keep his hands off his wife in front of the crowds.



The Somebody Like You hitmaker was seen patting his wife's bottom as they posed for photographers.

Speaking to Mail Online's red carpet correspondent Baz Bamigboye, Nicole referred to herself as a gentle 'kitten' as opposed to her movie's namesake Lion.

'Lioness? No. I'm a kitten,' the actress laughed.



Keith quipped: 'Kitten? I don't know about that.'

Nicole lost the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the Australian adoption tale Lion to Viola Davis, who took home the award for her role in Fences.

The Aussie star previously won Best Actress at the 2003 ceremony for her role in The Hours.
